I've got an ebike charger up for sale on Ebay. I've had 4 or 5 offers but no bids. Is this a new thing? Should I wait until the end of the auction (which I'm inclined to do) or take the highest bid so far? I would've imagined someone would put in a lowball bid so that the item cannot be withdrawn from the sale. Bemused.
Pretty standard. People set up alerts then put in cheeky offers. If I do an auction I'll always let it run. All the serious bidder bid at the last minute. That said I usually go for a buy-it-now. Pick a price you are happy with and see if it sells. If it doesn't, then drop the price a bit. You can set it to instant payment to prevent getting messed around too
If you're inclined to accept an offer - add the Offers setting and set your lowest price on there. And an auto-accept amount.
I haven't bothered with auctions for 10+ years. I list it at the price I think it is worth and 99% of the time somebody will buy it. If it sells very quickly I have probably undersold it but I don't really care, I got the price I wanted.
Selling with Buy It Now and Payment required immediately and only listing on 80% reduce fees weekend makes eBay a good place to sell for me and I sell a lot of stuff.
Kerley +1
And don't set the accept offers option for BIN or you end up in the waiting for payment loop.
I'm the other way round. No bids or offers, auction only with a starting price of £1 and no reserve. Never had any real disasters price wise, (though I'm not a volume seller) and often been surprised with how people get caught up in a bidding war. A real good honest description helps too.
I always remove the offer function. It's like a website asking for a discount code at checkout. It just stalls the sale when the buyer was literally getting their card out.
I guess you could get good money for it, both from people who want to leave a charger at work, and scumbags who have pinched a bike and need a charger!
I've become more cautious with auctions recently after a couple items went for well before what I was expecting. I think people are being more cautious at the moment as they have lots money.
Buy it now is working well for me, but things are still selling for less and taking longer to sell.
I'm also wondering if fewer people are using eBay these days in favour of FB ?

I have a similar attitude but I always use an auction and just start it at a price that I wouldn't be dissapointed with. Occasionally you'll get a real suprise to the upside. Sold a chainsaw recently for about £150 more than I was expecting! Would have shot myself in the foot if that had been BIN.
If I see something on ebay that I need / want now and it's on a long auction but accepting bids then I'll make a bid to see if I can get it quickly. Through a back and forth of counter offers you can get to a compromise price everyone is happy with
Auction prices are dropping dramatically - I list at the minimum im willing to accept or a BIN price only and don't accept offers, although eBay is very sneaky at turning them back on when your editing or messing about with the listing.
I only sell using BIN and only on the 80% off weekend. The advantage of BIN is that it lasts for 30 days. With an auction, it only lasts 7 days and then auto renews. What they don’t mention is that when it auto renews, you pay the full fees and not 80% off. I also check what the item has sold for previously and undercut it slightly.
I don’t really understand why people do BIN on eBay. If you have a figure in mind to sell for then just list it on Facebook and pay no fees.
I’d also question how you know what something is worth as that is entirely defined by what some is willing to pay. Case in point I bought a bike on eBay at the height of lockdown sky high prices for £460. I rode it for three years and have just sold it on via eBay - if I’d had to come up with a BIN price - I don’t know, maybe £300? That would have been unwise as it sold for £710.

The fees are minimal if you know what you are doing, the transaction process is great and most importantly I don't use Facebook

You can see what other items have sold for but if there are none then I price a bit over what it is worth to me and then drop price a week later if it doesn't sell.
I sell a lot of stuff and pissing about with non paying bidders, relisting etc,. is not worth the hassle and I would rather lose a few quid here and there than waste my time on it.

I add the fees into the asking price on ebay. FB is good for local sales, but why limit your marketplace? Also FB is filled with scams and time wasters.
If the going rate is clear I'll use BIN if it's collectable / rare maybe auction but you have to be careful if there's only one person interested it's not going to go for much.
I've not seen a FVF discount for a while which is annoying as I've got a bike frame to sell, could be I'm not getting offered it as I've not sold anything recently, perhaps I need to list a couple of cheap items?
The only thing that bugs me is listing for auction at about the price it'll probably go for as if it's going to get bid up to some astronomical figure, just use BIN!
I think a lot depends on what is being sold and how niche/desperate.
eBike charger is pretty niche and someone will either NEED one or not.
I never bid on anything with more than 2s to go. If I want something I set a price I'm willing to pay, set an alarm and then bid if it hasn't gone over the price.
If its got a buy-it-now/offer I sometimes make an offer but usually something like "will you post it for the buy-it-now" or because its local and I'll make a F&F or cash offer when I pick up.

Because facebook is like selling it to some stranger down a dark alley. At least with ebay any potential buyer needs to go through checks and identify pretty much who they are.

Have you checked in the offers section of ebay? They don't seemed to send out the offers, I never get a notification about it, but when I check after a PSA the offer is there in ebay waiting for me. Keep an eye on HotUKDeals for a PSA or just keep checking. They've been every two weeks recently

There was one last weekend so I listed a whole load of stuff (including a bike frame). All of it has already sold and I have the money minus very small fees.
I hate eBay now. They've made something that should be simple really complicated in their quest to maximise revenue from it. I'm loving Vinted which is what eBay was like 15 years ago in its simplicity and useability.
