And not in a good way. This happens to me a lot, since I apparently have whatever the equivalent of 3 Michelin stars is for biting insects, but recently I have had a lot of bites on my lower legs at night.  They are very small lumps.  I thought bed bugs, but are there other different things it could be?

Generally I tend to just ignore these things until they go away, but this time I have tried tumble drying (whilst dry) my duvet and mattress topper just to see what happens.  Apparently a clothes steamer can work well too.

Stayed in a hotel (or in someone else's house) recently?

Fleas another possibility, especially as being bitten on lower legs.

Got any pets - re fleas. Little bastardo's they are. Indorex spray is good for bugs in general (well not so good for them).

Are the bites in groups? E.g. sets of three?

If so... my money is on bedbugs. We had them early in lockdown, managed to self-eradicate but took a while, with a catchers under the bed legs, stripping the bed frame down (pine bed so possible), sprays, mattress cover, pillow covers, new duvet. Bed away from the walls too.

If it is pet fleas, get said pets Advantage spot-on treatment from the vets. Trust me on this, this is a long and weary path I've travelled previously.

Why not use a vet closer to home?

I don't think it's pet fleas, I've been acquainted with them before and you could feel them crawling and see and catch them.

There are sometimes multiples yes. I'll see if the tumble dry helped.

How big is your freezer?!  I can't fit a duvet in there.

Lower legs sounds like fleas alright, though perhaps not infesting your bedding. Advantage might not work any more where you are: fleas evolve immunity to pesticides, and Advantage stopped working around us about five years ago when we still had cats. The cats were forbidden from upstairs, and though the fleas would travel on us around the sofa was where they were most focused. Indorex spray was good for controlling the house’s infestation problems, and the vets had something on prescription that still worked against our local fleas (both Frontline and Advantage were useless) on the cats themselves. Wearing white socks around the house makes spotting the fleas easier and they’re hardy bastards but you can kill them mechanically by crushing them between two fingernails.

Once you remove the corpse I find there's plenty of space

We had a bed bug or flea problem in barracks once, the mo reckoned they would go once we were out on excersise as they would be too cold. They did disappear, so maybe just hanging your duvet out will suffice, covered from rain of course. Pretty cold at night just now

Someone I knew caught pubic lice while he was in the forces, his mum told him to run a hot bath and put some Dettol in the water. He put a full bottle in and it burnt the skin off his gonads and he reckoned he could see his reflection in them!

There is usually a pile of clothes at the end of the bed, which could be where they are living and being transferred from cats,  and also why I'm not seeing them.

Being bitten in bed

Am disappointed. This thread is not about what I thought it was going to be about.

We picked up bed bugs on a walking holiday - multiple bites in a line. We Googled it then when we got home dumped everything except the credit cards and phones at the end of the garden. We entered the house naked and decontaminated though it was highly unlikely any bugs were still on our bodies, just in our luggage, then went shopping for a freezer as we'd never previously owned one. We plugged it in under the veranda, everything in the freezer on max for a couple of days = no more living bed bugs. We now go through the freezing routine whenever we stay anywere we're likely to pick up bed bugs.

You can get rid of bed bugs permanently.

Buy some item from Craghoppers Nosilife range. It could be a t-shirt or anything, really.

Place the garment where you usually sleep, tuck the duvet over it, and switch on your electric blanket to its lowest setting.

The bed bugs will think that the garment is a person, climb inside, and die.

It’s really that simple.

Careful, never to wash anything Nosilife above 30•C. You’ll lose the active ingredient (permethrin).

@molgrips I’m impressed if you can feel fleas on you and catch them! You are aware that they’re pretty impressive at jumping?

If it were summer I'd say duvet out into direct hot sunshine. All day turning every couple of hours

Sincerely hoping you remembered to get dressed between these two activities 😀

Squamish

Are Canadian fleas different to European fleas? Do they have little fur coats to keep them warm?

Lol, I totally missed that.

More worrying is how the bloody hell does my mobile have that in its predictive dictionary? Just checked though and it does. 🙃
