It's got to the point where people are taking offence at me signing off "Ta Dick"
It never used to be like this ☹️
Sign off as Cocker from now on
That's hard Dick
Jesus, I went searching for a GIF to cheer you up. My god, what is seen cannot be unseen.
We have a regular Tuesday meet up and someone usually exits with "see you next Tuesday". Hasn't yet got old in the 15 or so years we've been going.
Change it to "Love Dick"
Nominative determinism.
Someone called me Boob in an email this week😭
I knew a Dick, whose brothers were Willie and John middle name Thomas.
That's Sucks Dick
Is it the lack of comma between Ta and Dick that's offending them?
Don't wait until tomorrow to do what can be done today.
Tell them to **** off now, and give them something to be offended by.
Regards Dick
Best Dick
Thanks Dick
Cheers Dick
It's the 'ta' people are bothered by. Its better just to leave that bit out and sort of valediction and just put your name
"Should you require further clarification, please don't hesitate to contact me. Dick!"
"Thanks in advance for your timely response. Dick!"
That sort of thing. People could misconstrue the 'Ta' as being a bit passive aggressive. But adding an exclamation mark makes you look like a fun, upbeat kinda guy
Are the people Gen Z'ers? I was reading in the Guardian the other day (so it must be true) that young people have a whole new set of etiquette. For example when you arrive at somebody's house, it is rude to knock on the door, you should wait outside and message them. At my work there are problems with young people being super-anxious about making 'phone calls, again they think this is aggressive. This is all of course premised that we are all glued to our mobile 'phones all the time!
Don't forget to give them pre-notification of any proposed change, you could sign it as below with another comma error.
Dick heads up, yours
Sincerely
Thanks all for brightening up a stressful day 🙂
At my work there are problems with young people being super-anxious about making ‘phone calls,
Apparently here in the UK we were the fasted adopters of text messaging and people here would send far more texts than people in other countries (I don't know if thats evened up in recent years)- and I think its because we've never been that keen on calling people - its not the speaking to someone its the ringing - sounding a bell in someones home that tells people that you demand to speak to them, now. Not very British :-). The good thing about a text is nobody needs to read it or respond to it until they're ready to so they feel less intrusive to send. So I often get texts that say 'give me a call when you're free' rather than someone just phoning me.
Regards Dick
Best Dick
Thanks Dick
Cheers Dick
so long, Dick
All the best Dick
I only know one 'ta'er on work emails. Coincidentally he's also a bit of a dick.
I'd not beat about the bush and just go loud and proud with a......"Best Dick".
Semi related. Do you think Little Richard was a bit substandard in that department? Or was it ironic and he was hung like a horse?
It’s got to the point where people are taking offence at me signing off “Ta Dick”
That attitude is positively dickensian.
You should be standing tall and proud, My dad was a Dick and my eldest brother is a Dick....although he does insist I call him Ritchie.
At my work there are problems with young people being super-anxious about making ‘phone calls, again they think this is aggressive.
Perhaps they should use a Dicktaphone instead…
Reminds me of an old Irn Bru advert
Semi related
Well played!
My names Dick, do you like it?
Best Dick has my vote.
The younger folk and phones thing proper pisses me off. Get it all the time at work.
Funk “this is some serious shit. Have you contacted best Dick”?
Young person “emailed him twice but he’s not responded”
Funk “FFS pick up the phone and call him. Don’t be dicking about”
Could be worse.
My son has a classmate called Iona.
Iona Dick.
🙈
Thinking about it couldn’t you end communications with Dick off or, even better, Dick out.
For example when you arrive at somebody’s house, it is rude to knock on the door, you should wait outside and message them
I'm pretty sure you wait outside and post on instagram
Perhaps they should use a Dicktaphone instead…
I'd prefer they used their finger like everybody else.
You should be standing tall and proud, My dad was a Dick and my eldest brother is a Dick….although he does insist I call him Ritchie
I love being a dick, but it does get me into all sorts of sticky situations at times. I'm sure that it wasn't used as an insult so much when I was a kid though ☹️
A distant relative of mines surname is Dick, (scottish I think) and his first name begins with "A".
So that's unfortunate, hahah!
It’s the ‘ta’ people are bothered by.
Why?
Good strong, upstanding name. I'd love to be a Dick. Just so that when meeting new people I could thrust out my hand and bellow DICK
Would be extra lols if your second name was something like 'chimney'.
I know a Richard Swallow who insists on being called Dick.
I once took a photo of a man called Donald Dick in front of a space shuttle. It was in the good old days when you had to have your photos developed and then post it to people in a letter (hence why he told me his name, which coincidentally agreed with his badge for the scientific conference we were attending.)
“Should you require further clarification, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Dick!”
“Thanks in advance for your timely response. Dick!”
This could easily be read as you calling them a dick.

Haven't experienced this really, but it can be a bit inconvenient or distracting for someone to initiate a possibly long conversation at a time only considering their own convenience. It's the remote equivalent of turning up at someone's desk, only you can't see if they're busy doing something else at the time. If someone's work involves concentration, interrupting them for 2 minutes might actually cost 20 minutes before they get back into what they were doing. Some people phone me to tell me things (not needing conversation) that are so not urgent that sending a letter would be fine.
Alright no need to be a dick about it
“Should you require further clarification, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Dick!”
“Thanks in advance for your timely response. Dick!”
This could easily be read as you calling them a dick.
But if it's the perfect crime. A license to call people dicks and get away with it.
Unless your name isnt Dick. Wally!
Mega LOL at BigJohn turning up to the Dick thread! That's made my day. Thank you BigJohn. 😀

I watched someone on the train the other day hold a conversation that she recorded, sent and got a reply, listened and then the whole process started again... seemed like madness to me
