Evenin' all.
I have cheapy 2 line kite that has given me a lot of fun, but I want to step up to a 4 line kite as it'll hopefully launch easier when I crash it, and I might one day want to try kitesurfing, so a bit of practice might not be a bad thing. Mostly for the control and relaunch thing though.
Thinking of a Flexifoil Sting or maybe a Rage. I'm 55kg, so nothing too big, probably just a 1.8m. Would this be a sensible first step?

The Rage are a bloody brilliant kite - remember its the reverse of the usual with size/wind though.
The larger the kite - the lighter the wind it will fly in HOWEVER the greater the power it will generate (and lift)

After seeing a thread on here around new year I bought a 3m HQ beamer and I've enjoyed being dragged around the beach with it (a 1.8m should be fine for you)
Booked kitesurf lessons for the end of this month and I'm starting to get some kit together too.
The sting is awesome. That was my first proper kite and I still have it.
It's amazing in powerful winds and can give you some good skidding action.

If you're moving up to a bigger kite & you weigh 55 Kg I'd go for the Sting. I've got a 1.8 Bullet, weigh 92 Kg & it can easily lift me in moderate conditions. Exercise caution, these things can be entertaining in inexperienced hands 😀 as I know to my cost !

Decathlon do (or at least used to!) some very good entry level kites.
I have a 2.5m (I think) rage and it's ace. Pulls well but not too hard. Can be trimmed to pull like a freight train if I want it to. Highly recommended. That said I'm considering selling mine as I rarely get to use is.
Might be interested if it's a 1.8, but I think 2.5 might be a bit too big to start.
Decathlon kite here, 4 line 2.8m and just great as a keep it in the boot in case item.
My first kite was a 4.9m Blade mkIII

(I am by not suggesting this is a beginners kite, it's not a toy and can cause serious injuries) 😀
I had a blade 6.6. The 4.9 was scarier though! Faster and more snappy. Happy days! My 15m Guerilla was a beast though. I think something c.3m is a good 4 line starter kite.
I have a 2.4 Sting and it's great. Unless you live somewhere really windy it's not too big - friends your weight or lighter, plus older kids, have flown it quite happily. It's very controllable so you can build up how much it pulls. Also crashes very well.
As said, size is more about the wind conditions you want to fly in - smaller may mean waiting for a windier day but when it's blowing really hard you can probably still fly.
Im very much a novice, but have lots of fun with my Rage 2.5m. Fortunately I have 95Kg on my side 😉
I dont get to use it much, but when Im in the mood Im always pleased I've taken it with me. I still hate making a mess of my lines though 🙁

Reminds me - I need to put my Blade, lines, handles, bar and harness up for sale soon 😀
Stoner, if you are using handles the trick is to wind them off with the same hands/rotation as you wind them on with.
Took me ages to work out something so simple.
i've got a 3 or 3.5m hq beamer on a flexifoil bar that i've had for years, great bit of kit for the price. not lifty but good pull.
failing that if you want to pay more i'd probably look at ozone.
