O2 Broardband, though not the best in the the world has been sold off to Sky. There must be others in the same position? Has your Broardband Speed taken a serious dip of late. We used to be able to use Iplayer in HD without problem, since the switch it's not worked well in High Def mode and in the evenings even SD is buffering.
I feel like walking and moving supplier - but like double glazing is there anyone out there that isn't a total arse?
I am in the same boat as in an O2 customer and decided to move to fibre as it has just been installed in my street cabinet and ended up going through the O2 migration team and getting a great deal with Sky.
I'm still waiting for it to be activated so can't comment on fibre speed, but I haven't noticed an significant drop in my existing broadband.
I was with O2 for home broadband as well - always seemed to be a reliable & quick enough connection. Since the move to Sky I've noticed 2 outages of a couple of hours each. Plus they're going to put the price up once the migration offer is over, plus I hate Sky with a passion so I'll be moving supplier sometime soon.
Haven't noticed a speed change, but my bill went from £14 to £27 this month 😯 Haven#'t had time to chase them about it yet.
I'm really cross about it because I moved from Sky -> O2 to stop lining Murdoch's pockets, now I'm back with the tossers again.
I am on infinity fibre and its superb - 96mb connection and it flies...
4 HD streams is no problem at all.
Oh and I haven't verified it myself yet but I've been told their support lines have gone from 0800 or 0845 numbers on o2, to premium rate numbers on Sky... If true, they are double tossers.
retro83 - I got a surprise bill too, but turns out it covered the whole period since the November(?) handover.
I moved from sky just before xmas, certainly the worse broadband we have ever had. We used to be able to use laptop, ipads etc in the garden without no issues until we had sky installed. I have now gone to Virgin and now all issues gone. Sky should just concentrate on TV simple personally I am now using Virgin with Netflix - good luck
Something similar happened to me years ago.
I was with Virgin broadband but when they merged with NTL download speeds were appalling - in fact for a 2meg line I got a better upload than download speed! I went through the support process but always got fobbed off with excuses about house / cables etc but I knew it wasn't as I could get 1.5meg for a while after I rebooted the router.
I have been with Zen for the last 7 years. They aren't the cheapest by any stretch. But it works. It's never down. Speeds are good for where I live. People reckon the customer support is good. I've got no idea - I've never had to call them.
Oh god just got off the phone with varying degrees of success.
1 technical support suggested we'd be in a new contract with sky and couldn't leave 9not one i've signed love)
2 We haven't moved supplier yet and are still with o2 dispite recieving Sky bills
3 got the number to call O2 broardband it was answered "hello Sky"
Head in hands moment. This isn't looking good.
not noticed a change but my bill went from £18 to £15
it's a no contract deal though so you can walk if you want
Don't want to fill the pockets of the Antichrist. But I'd just like to have working connections at home. Can't even get anyone to claim ownership of the Line/problem at the moment. Zen looks amall enough to give a toss.
I have heard that BT have dreadfull customer service.
Plus net ownerd by BT have good customer service.
So confused.
My mum's with Plusnet and were OK when there was a problem with her connection.
VM pissed me off, BT did the same, John Lewis (via plusnet) seem OK but I'm a small tarif user. You could take a look there.
bt customer service is woefull- getting activated was a ballache, but the infinity fibre is very fast and been 100% reliable for the year or so weve had it
the wifi routers also been very good, excellent coverage throughout the house, even at the bottom of the garden!
BT's customer service reputation put me off massively.
Zen look good and I like the webspace option. 50 GB usage worries me with a internet limit related posting only today (no daughters here mind)
BT customer service has been excellent for me. Waiting for Fibre to go live in my street, it's on it's way they're down the road today a few streets near by. Connection speed on ADSL2+ has been excellent a nice steady never failing 14mb I've not had so much as a drop out or slow down in almost a year.
BT's LLU offering was Be Internet rebranded, last time I looked. Is that what they've sold?
I used to be with Zen, couldn't fault them. My logic at the time was after Pipex turned from the best provider in the UK to the worst, Zen were within kicking distance if I needed to get cross at them. Their service turned out to be excellent. Went from there to Sky simply because they couldn't compete on price, I got a faster DSL connection plus Sky TV for about £2 more than I was paying Zen just for broadband.
I've no idea what I can do to get decent broadband. My connection is typically 3mb, my street is marked as being in for review, but no idea what that means.
I couldn't really tell you who I use! I WAS on O2 and got shifted to sky, but I THINK I changed away. I have two bills, newcall telecom £6 and telefonica £20.50 a month; are one of these sky masquerading?
Telefonica is the owner of O2 as far as I know.
We used to be able to use laptop, ipads etc in the garden without no issues until we had sky installe
SuperScale, that sounds more like an issue with your WiFi than the actual line.
+1 for Plusnet, they can piggy bag BT fibre optic and it's quick enough to stream HD, great customer service and nice and cheap.
used to have sky broadband unlimited but the speeds were woefully slow...8mb one a good day....i.e. in the middle of the night
we then upgraded to fibre and the speed has shot up to 72mb...happy days!!
No issues with sky for me, been with them since it first started. Not the fastest ever, normally 5-8mbps but we only pay either £5 or £7.50 per month so not going to complain.
Sky gave me fibre broadband at £20/month, a year's free line rental and a £75 credit when they bought Be. Service has been fine.
If you call o2 (sky) and say youre moving to BT youll get a good deal. I pay 15 quid for broadband and free sky tv. No line rental required with bt either.
I'm with plusnet and they have been fine.
sorted out a problem quite quickly, also gave me a decent renewal deal when wholesale prices dropped
I found myself in the same position and would rather drink my own piss than give money to Sky. Moved to BT and the transfer was seamless. Not had any reason to call them so can't comment on their customer service.
This was about to happen to me when I moved house last year - I really rated 02 as a broadband provider so I thought it was a bit of a shame. I'm now with sky at a new address and it seems fine.
My big concern is that there are only really half a dozen providers now and their numbers are shrinking, the market is far less competitive.
Remember - for most people your land line is effectivelly a broadband stealth tax - look at the whole package price.
Please don't give money to Murdoch
I'm with BT (non fibre) was a bit of a hassle getting connected they went to wrong box on the street then took a month to activate it.
But ever since has been 100% reliable and never had any issues with speed even with multiple devices streaming in HD
Please don't give money to Murdoch
Good luck with that.
Very impressed with BT infinity
Rather than being automatically transferred over from O2 to Sky, anyone in this position should give them a call first and negotiate with them. I managed to get free broadband and line rental from them which is a significant annual saving.
I'm on Sky fiber now and am getting a connection speed of just under 40Mbs.
reliability seems ok so far, time will tell.
