Hi
Back in the 90's i was well into making music being in a band etc. I did quite a lot of mixing/producing etc.
Ive posted this before but this is for reference video below...

Ive been asked to mix a few songs for a band, which im happy to be asked and i was going to do it all inboard on my iMac - all good so far.
However, i mixed a test song over the weekend and im after some good compressors / reverbs and maybe some mastering software. I used to do everything with a lovely valve compressor which i now don't own.

Could any one help me get some plugins for this? Ideally send me some? Im not doing this mixing for money but for a favour. Any tips would be welcome as it seems a long way off a neve desk.

Thank you for any help

What DAW software?

Logic and Ableton (my main experience) the built in audio effects are pretty darn good these days, no real need to install 3rd party vsts.

Garageband I have less experience with, but isn't it like a cut down version of Logic?

I did buy some VSTs from WA productions for a recent mixing project, they do some very nice reverb/delays, and a great vocal automation tool called Outlaw.

Plugin Boutique do some good VST bundles.

Hmm, have no experience of Adobe Audition.

Why not use Garageband, as it will be on your iMac?

Or Reaper is meant to be very good. Free to download and use for 60 days (full functionality) and then costs £40 or so.

You should be able to string together a decent mastering chain with free vsts from Kvraudio.

Abletons inbuilt vsts are awesome and there’s enough mixing/mastering tools to do the job: the demo version may prevent you from exporting the file but you could maybe route it from ableton into audition? Reaper is also worth a looksee

also this is the nicest sounding in the box mixer and refreshingly old school in use 🙂

has great eq and dynamics on the board and decent plugins as standard

unlimited demo with a bit of hiss every once in a while

Plenty of YouTube stuff out there showing mastering in Audition.

When I was into this stuff BITD, my go to mastering plugins were from Voxengo and Izotope.

Far from free but Izotope is a good all in one solution, you mentioned reverb but wouldn't that be going into the realm of taking creative liberties?
