They're overpriced crap.
Unless, of course, your primary choice of music consists solely of bass-heavy D&B, otherwise avoid, there are far more better quality 'phones for a similar price or less. Phillips do some pretty highly regarded ones, which don't look much, but apparently sound great.

Yep. Useless pieces of utter dog crap. Made by Monster Cable Products who ship most of their garbage in from taiwan anyway. My £50 phillips over ear headphones sound better, and IMO you look like a douche wearing them.

The word Douche literally appears in my head every time I see some sucker wearing them.

Can't go wrong with Grado or Sennheiser's nicer models for that money...

They have a red cable. That means they sound a gazillion times better than headphones without a red cable as any fule no.

Proper shite they are. Sennheiser, Grado, Sony etc all much better.

The best value ear/headphones by a country mile are sound magic's E10s. You'd need to spend >£100 to get anything better.

You get better sound quality from over ear headphones for less than those.

Can you actually tell the difference between £15 and £100 ones, does it really improve your experience. Thats the question you need to ask.

I have tried some .
As mentioned above , for bass definition they did seem good. This is only compared to 'Budget' < £30 in ear headphones. Cx200 , Denon and IStuff 808's
For listening to dance music the bass notes sounded more defined, clearer and controlled.
Would I part with the £70 like my mate did ? No , Im 43 and dont like D & B and listen to R4 more than R1

It's the Philips Fidelio M-1 'phones I was thinking of, not as cheap as some, but about what you'd pay for the shonky Beats ones:

http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/hi-fi-and-audio/headphones/philips-fidelio-l1-1070976/review
And the CitiScape ones at £90 get a good review here, too:

I got a set with my phone, they were horrible. Way too biased towards bass, lacked any clarity and sounded muddy. I guess if you just listen to Dr Dre they might be OK?

Sold 'em for 50quids on ebay, dramatically reducing the overall price of the phone 8)

They're alright but very overpriced and bass heavy. These are good.

My nephews have them and they sounded quite good when I had a quick try of them, but then I have a cheap pair of Denon ones that I use, so that's probably why.

They look awful though.

They are a fashion item not a piece of high quality music equipment. I demoed some side by side with boss and senshauser and they inferior. As with any decent "hifi" the first question is what do you listen to, if it's bass heavy type music then the beats might be for you but really they are about being seen not heard.

Even if they were decent the loud branding would put me off.

I love my Sennheiser HD215s and they've lasted me over 5 years now and still going strong. Isolation and sound quality is great and so is the price.

Dont really like over the ear headphones for general listening to music. But i have Sennheiser HD25's for Dj'ing and music production and their excellent. Very clear sound, not too much bass although i can just use the eq to add more base.

For general listening i use Sennheiser CX300's in ear phones and again, nice level of bass and i can hear every Synth and string in the music i listen to ( Orchestral Trance,Uplifting Trance and Ambient)

Although my phone does have beats Audio ehancer on it. And the music quality is a hell of alot better than my ipod touch.

Grado SR60 is the best affordable headphone I have heard. Easy to drive too so work with phones and iPods. Open backed though so not suitable for train/bus etc. Plus amazingly ugly...

I've got some Grado SR60s, had them for 20 years, fantastic. I quite like the look of them in a 1950s bakelite kind of way. I used to use them for DJing so they got a bit of a hammering but still work fine.

They also sound shit with DnB 😉

I've had the same pair of sennheiser hd25s for 6 years, they're practically indestructible.

I bought some sennheiser 580 (IIRC) about 10 years ago.

Sound fabulous, and still going strong.

They're not bad but they are overpriced and image strong.

If you want high quality at a reasonable price = Beyerdynamic DT770 PRO.

ANYTHING sounds shit on the Beats headphones. They're all about style (and paying millionaires to endorse them) over substance. And then they're not even very stylish!

I've had the same pair of sennheiser hd25s for 6 years, they're practically indestructible.

Have had mine 7 now, they're still going strong. And even if I did break anything on them, every part is still available as a replacement part.

Honestly, get ANYTHING by Sennheiser over any Beats headphones (even £20 Sennheiser's over £250 Beats) as the sound quality will be so much better. Other makes such as Grado, Beyer Dynamic etc. are all worth considering too based on your requirements, but for the discerning DJ and producer nothing will ever beat the Sennheiser HD25's. They really are probably the best £140 I ever spent!

I wouldn't describe them quite as badly as some of this thread, but there is no way they are worth anywhere near that money. They are very bass heavy but it's not tunefull and detailed, it's just heavy thuddy. And I like bass heavy music.

Sennheisers, Grados etc. or as I like AKGs, are miles miles better, and for less money. And if you can get yourself a headphone amp, that would probably be worth it.

I have some Sennhieser in earphones from Richer Sounds, they were about £15 (I gave up buying expensive ones after a lost pair and breaking the cable off another, I'm too clumsy) nephew had some in ear £40 beats with his birthday money (hes 9) The beats were more base heavy but I couldn't hear much else. He informed me mine weren't cool and people walking past wouldn't be able to hear them he used words like 'sick' and 'ill' to describe his and 'grandad-face' for mine. I don't think sound quality is an issue to the target market.

I'm still astonished by my Beyerdynamic DT531. Now 10 years old.
Even just driven off the PC, they are just incredible.

I've broken them and had them repaired and replaced the pads twice. Still haven't heard anything as good apart from the top-of-the-range beyers though.

They are very open though - as in other people can hear them and I can hear other things.

Sennheiser HD25's for clarity.

Sony MDR V700 for more bass.

Both well respected DJ headphones that have been around for a long time. For which read pretty much bomb proof, capable of being driven at huge outputs for sustained periods and not looked after very well.

The Beats by Dre on the other hands are like a plastic toy in comparison.

The good thing about beats is they totally block out the tinny s****s of absolute derision.

Frends headphones for me - tougher / subtler than skullcandy and I found them in the sale. 🙂

I have a pair, in black, black leads too. They're ok, bit muffled so I have to up the treble on the iPad yet fit my ears well, sounds are good and keep extrainius noise out well enough..

Reason I bought them??

Cos I couldn't be bothered to get into hifi mode and go all techie.. Just wanted something to do the job and I got them cheap.

But.. " Don't believe the hype".. Dddddddd "don't believe the hype"

Sorry about the thread revival but just got some of the SoundMagic E10 in ears and, wow! really good sound for the cash, better than my old Shure's that gave up the ghost recently.

I have closed AKGs but your ears don't half get hot in them.

I had an accident with my Shure 535s which involved one of the earpieces getting drunked in some drink. Must have left the filter a bit clogged as they were quite in that ear.

Sent them back to Shure for repair - brand new set sent out free (they were under warranty).
