What shampoo and balm are you using? I’ve been using the same stuff for years and fancy a change? Something cheap, but still good quality would be good. Also feel free to ridicule and regale me with tales of using normal shampoo.

Go full hipster and make your own.

Buy some 'carrier' oil such as Jojoba or almond oil.

Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils for fragrance.

Used to use oil but found it just made my beard feel greasy and look shiny.

Use bulldog balm now.

For shampoo I just use what ever the wife leaves on the side of the bath.

Never bothered with oils apart from when it was really short. Need balm for a bit of hold to stop things going too crazy. Normal shampoo just causes itchy beard and flaky skin so is no good.

Struggling to find a recent picture of my face. This is from a couple of years ago and I’m aiming for longer now. Always have a beard really, just at different lenghths.

Bet your beard looks like shit though. 😉 Beard balms have been around for years. I’ve been using them since the nineties.

Funkmasterp wins!

Vosene to minimise the snowflakes and Bulldog beard balm for me too. Oils just feel exactly that.

Don't let the pic fool you. I'm a laugh a minute.

Soap, haven't used shampoo in ages in a bid to reduce plastics and I found shower gel and shampoo we're drying out the skin on my hands.

But that leaves it dull, so I use oil.

As a barber I'd agree with the Bulldog balm suggestion, I think beard oil might smell good but I find it ineffective for beard taming. And if you fancy waxing your stache then Canyouhandlebar primary and secondary are really really good.

As for shampoo, thats a big old con. Go for something gentle without too many extras and avoid 2 in 1 stuff.

Exfoliating is your friend. Use a nail brush and gently scrub whilst in the shower. Should relieve the itch.

I’ll give the bulldog a go. Damn sight cheaper than the stuff I currently buy.

Nope, had a beard since my late teens and never had this issue. It’s probably because you’re using soap. As per the OP I’m looking for a change of product not advice.

Sheep birthing fluid at the moment and for the foreseeable

Can you bottle some up for me?

I use Woody's beard and tattoo oil. Need to get it right down to the skin for it to do its job which is to moisturise. A little goes a long way. I put it all over my face and neck too.

I went to that London a month back before the world went mad and got serious beard envy. I have had a beard for most of the last 20 years but it is strictly of the lazy can't be arsed to shave mentality.

One specifically - not that long but I can only describe it as the top hairs were the full length of the beard, smooth and sleek. Mine is just what you get if you run a grade 7 clippers over it a sort of uniform fuzzy bush. I don't even know what to google to know where to start - I'm assuming someone else doing the cutting ans scissors are probably involved.

Yeah, getting somebody else to fit it I’d the best way. I make a right hash of mine if I do anything other than a tidy up

That's a proper beard. Grown to mask one's great personal beauty to prevent continual harassment by lovestruck whatever gender you prefer.

All those others are probably owned by people whose real hobby is topiary... 🙂

Thought this had been asked before on here but couldn't find anything in my (frighteningly massive) posting history.

DIY as it looks so simple and undoubtedly cheaper too. Came across this which is pretty helpful and informative:

https://www.thatchface.com/diy-beard-oil-how-to-guide/

This is also helpful, I buy a lot of my essential oils from here and they sell carrier oils too.

https://www.freshskin.co.uk/blog/homemade-beard-oil-using-essential-oils/

Just remember that it will need to be kept in dark coloured glass and out of sunlight and heat.

No no no, I'm definitely a woman and definitely don't have a beard!! My point is that things like this are so easy to make, you can start off by making a tiny quantity especially when finding a carrier oil that suits. Then you can be creative with conjuring up an aroma that will drive the ladies or men wild. It's eco-friendly and cheaper too.

I've always been a fan of Kalamazoo beard shampoo from Lush (hold your breath as you go in). I can definitely tell the difference if I don't use it for a few days

Bulldog shampoo(used every other day) and Vines oil(used after every shower). Both cheap and work well. One thing I have found that helps with itchy or flaky is blow-drying after a shower if your beard is on the longer side.

Oil is plain shite for anything other than stubble/can still see most of your neck beard to be fair. Can’t see me making my own balm tbh as I’m just not inclined to do so.

Don’t blow dry it you crazy man! Itch and flake will go if you exfoliate every day.

Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils for fragrance.

Glad I reread this, I was about to order some of my favourite essential fatty acids.

No matter how cheap it's a waste of money if all it does is makes a greasy mess of your beard.

Balm is or wax (Dax has been good for taming strays) but oils just felt like a waste of time and effort.

'and in latest beard news'
A few of the Doctors at the hospital I work at have shaved their beards as the N95 masks which are the only kind of mask that is effective against the corona virus don't fit properly with one and will therefore be ineffective when in use.
Buy shares in Gillette, et al anyone (you could make a quick killing)

I'm about a week into cba shaving but I'm also at the arggg stage of itchiness and temptation to shave. I've also got an annoying patch that doesn't seem to want to grow as fast as everything else so I just look like I've been on the lash for a few days, not someone who's trying to grow out a bit.
