Inspired by other current foodie threads I thought I’d add one having done this yesterday...a spoon of cold beans as a ‘starter’ while decanting to pan 😉. Wife thinks I’m a wrong ‘un...I think it’s fine...yes or no?

We're the other way round in this house.

I have the wrestle the tin from her or its no hit beans.

Even when she's cooked them they're barely luke warm.

They should be hot and about to tufn to mush.

Long time since I had cold beans but - nothing wrong them.
As for you and your cold soup Rob - heathen; unless it's vichyssoise but I've never seen that in a can or carton.

They've already been boiled. What's the problem?

Now then, does anyone else add a dollop of marmite while they are heating up?

Joshvegas +1 - proper cooked to death beans are the baws.

I used to work with a guy who had no love for food, only drink. He only ate because he had to.

Cold beans from the tin was his staple.

Always have to have a spoonful straight from the tin. Proper beans though, not those crappy no salt bo taste ones.

I would never trust anyone who didn't have a big spoonful of cold beans before decanting the rest of the tin

That’s just deviant behaviour and they’ve should be viewed with suspicion

For a dessert, rice pudding straight from the tin is where it's at

Disgusting, because there's no way the cheese and Chipotle Tabasco could melt in properly.

@submarined ditch the cheese, keep the Tabasco and I know you're not supposed to but the leftover beans teeth jarring cold from the fridge are awesome.

Left over beans exist as my children may have had beans on toast earlier and have not yet learned that one person can eat an entire tin on their own...

Gaspacho comes in cartons, y'know [/Waitrose]

A good dash of Tabasco rather than a dollop of Marmite here, but yeah why not.

It's one step away from rummaging through your neigbours bin to find your tea.

edit: I assume the dress code for this is underpants, preferably Y fronts?

does anyone else add a dollop of marmite while they are heating up?

Spread on the (warbs toasty) toast under beans and a lightly apoached egg

My (Ex) french girlfriend was positively outraged by them, along with cold spaghetti hoops I'd eat from the can.

Cold baked beans out of a can, lovely.

Chilli con carne out of a can even more so.

Heathen and proud here.

Exit: Just read the rice pudding comment, ditto. Love that too!

spoon of cold beans as a ‘starter’ while decanting to pan

Oh yes.  And it has to be from the top, it's the best bit.  It's like eating the 'nose' of the cheese (presumably while no French people are watching or you would get maimed)

Yes they're excellent. I also scoff any left over sauce from the tin after decanting the beans. Also, it's been a long time since I visited, but I'm pretty sure the salad bar at Pizza Express used to have cold baked beans.

Devilled beans. Dollop of HP, sprinkle of crushed chillies a good whack of Tabasco and a glug of Henderson’s mmmmmmm.

My grandparents used to serve me cold beans on a plate, spun me out the first time as I was expecting them to be hot.

+2, to the point where they start to form a skin on cooling. Quite nice with corned beef added in for some lard too.

As for eating straight from the container without passing go, Branston pickle and piccalilli are my weaknesses.

Every day for dinner, tin of cold beans (must be Sainsburys or Aldi). Highlight of my working day ;). Except the ride home of course!

Combine with sweetcorn and you get trompette de pantalon. Food that fills you up and makes you laugh (hopefully).

My brother used to eat cold cans of beans & pocket the cash allowance, his company gave him for food, when abroad

Now then, does anyone else add a dollop of marmite while they are heating up?

BBQ or brown sauce here (though on the plate, as it’s my preference not my partners)

I used to work with a guy who had cold beans for lunch everyday.
Eat half the beans then add a small tin of tuna, mix it up then wolf the lot down.
There was social distancing in the afternoon before it was invented.

There is NO wrong way to eat baked Beans. I get through 1/2 a tin for brekkie almost every day. Just finished off beans with Chorizo and eggy bread as I type. And there is no shame in eating cold beans either. As a student, I once ran out of cash while away from home and had nothing to eat. I scraped together the loose change from around my old banger of a car and managed to scrape together enough to buy a single can of "Happy Shopper" baked beans. In the absence of a tin opener I had the smash my way into the top with a screwdriver and pour the cold beans into my mouth. desperate times call for desperate measures. Not bought Happy Shopper beans since 🙂

Cold baked beans are the king of salad ingredients when combined with lettuce, coleslaw, brown toast, smoked mackeral and a couple of boiled eggs.

For the record, I love cold beans. Got to be Heinz though - hot ot cold.

Going back to the 70s with this but my nanna served baked beans with a Sunday roast.

And an aunt of an ex-GF put them in her bolognese sauce!

Definately agree, have to be Heinz!

Wholegrain toast, lashings of butter, thick spread of marmite, whole tin of heinz, ketchup and mayo - breakfast of dreams - only made better with three scrambled eggs, heavily seasoned, on top.
Had it this morning, minus the eggs, while in my zoom team meeting. 👌
