Yes I'm ungreatful, its a freebie, but the weather ain't great and its day 4, im just a bit lost as to what to do for the next three days. Went for a 4 mile great hike today which did nothing more than fuel a desire to climb the ridiculous peak behind the resort. How do people do two weeks of this shit?
Hire a bicycle/scooter/car. Go explore. Learn to surf. Learn to swim, if you can’t already. Learn to snorkel. go find some history
or
drink lots of beer, eat egg ‘n’ chips, behave like typical brits abroad
Read a book, or two.
At least that way, you'll learn to be grateful... 😉
We always hire a car, get out after breakfast till mid afternoon.
You’ve certainly got to get out for a few days, and i couldnt do 2 weeks.
Personally speaking I’m busy enough day to day that 7 days where my maximum effort is walking to and from an inclusive bar between meals and during a warm sunny lie down reading a book is heavenly.
where are you?
Big hill ? Go and run up it !
I got my diving qualification just for that kind of situation - leave the wife on the beach with a book, and I disappear off for the morning to go diving.
The other option is to get hammered in a beachside bar, of course.
I have 2 "beach" holidays planned this year, on one I am going to learn to scuba dive, on the other I plan to learn to kite board. Still gives me over 50% of the time on each trip to relax on the beach with a kindle and maybe do some sightseeing (although I rarely have any interest in building or towns ect).
How do people do two weeks of this shit?
Cheap cocktails. Not me, but from observation
My idea of hell.
I'm told I find relaxing too stressful, and I do - why on earth anyone would want to lay in grit all day is beyond my comprehension. The inside of my head is a terrifying place, no way I would want two whole weeks of nothing bit sitting in it.
I'd find something to do sharpish.
i take it you dont have kids to entertain!! sounds bliss
nah tbh, i couldnt sit there for two weeks either, happily for a few days, but then id have to break it up with a day out...
ive decided im not entertaining that kind of holiday again unless i can take my bike... love the idea of getting up early, smashing out a little ride, and get back for a late breakfast with the fam... then normal service can resume - bar!
We don't do that type of holiday often but when we do we go with somewhere with a diving centre.
Second hiring a car or a scooter.
Stay away from TripAdvisor, open google maps and find a (reasonably) sized village in the mountains behind the resort, or away from all the shite. Go there and have some lunch...they'll be delighted with your custom and you'll probably have fun.
And yeah, where are you?
In Tenerife, the weather is pretty rubbish to be fair. Well I say rubbish, cloudy, breezy and warmish, but as in freeze your tits off when you get out of the pool, its due to rain this avo and tomorrow. If it was just me and Mrs ws we'd be fine but its a big family group, dearest daughter is also getting cabin fever which is winding the Mrs up. Thinking of going on a trip to the volcano maybe tomorrow. I can manage a week by the pool normally with a couple of walks or runs a day but this just ain't happening. Think I'm off to hire the ping pong bats and embark on a 3 hour table tennis marathon.
Ah, ok. I think your situation is beyond rescuing. You'll just have to tough it out. 🙂
Definitely get a car and go up mt tede- well worth a trip. Try not to get too underpowered a car if there will be a load of you in the car as you go uphill along a road with hundreds of hairpin bends.
Hire a bike and do some exploring if you can get away for a day without getting too much grief from the wife - there must be some mtb somewhere on the island - if not a spot of road riding better than nothing surely?
Other than that get a book and hit the bar!
The two places I enjoy being in Tenerife are El Medano for the windsurfing and the airport departure lounge.
Worth going up into the national park, often it can be above the clouds up there when it's cloudy down on the coast and vice versa. Lots of great walking. This was February time

Definitely get a bike and ride up mt teide- well worth a trip.
Moar betterer
I was there last October for a week. Had a great time. Rented a bike one day and rode Tiede - 54km straight climb from my hotel to the summit so not to be sniffed at if you're an average and part time roadie like me. Hired a car for a day and went to the zoo - as far as zoo's go it is very good. and spent the rest of the time playing with the kids in the pool and on the beach and having a few day-time beers. The wife just plugs herself into a book or two so doesn't demand too much of my time. Would have struggled if we were there for another week to be fair, but was entertained and kept busy enough for a week. If the kids were a bit older I'd have them out on the water sports activities.
I got my scuba qualifications for beach holidays back in the day we had beach holidays every year. Didn't have time to do it last October and is a good few years since I last dived so could probably do with a refresher, but I do miss diving for sure.
However I find on two week holidays it takes me a week to wind down and relax and I tend to slow down and become a bit lazier on the second week, so lounging in the sun next to the pool with a cocktail or beer and a book isn't the worst thing to be doing to while away the days - if the kids will let you. You're on holiday. The point is to spend some of it relaxing.
3 pints and 140 pages in to a book. It's been a dece day so far. Itching to get out and exercise though. Should've brought my bike but that would be totally against being on a family holiday. Get my dogio back Saturday so looking forward to a big walk out in the minus 5 windchill 😉
Darran @ Lavatrax fully booked or something?!In Tenerife
Should’ve brought my bike but that would be totally against being on a family holiday
Some very good hire shops on the island
Have you tried skeet surfing?
That ought to liven things up...
.
Edit: How do you insert a youtube clip?
