You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Apologies, a slightly misleading thread title. But bear with me...
All I see on the news, social media etc. is division amongst society, largely driven by a government with vested interests trying to "divide and conquer", but chiefly the spread of people becoming more and more selfish and buying into the lies they are fed about other people creating their problems really worries me...
Went out for a celebratory walk (celebratory as she recently tore her calf muscle, this was the first time she's ventured further than the end of the road since doing so) with my GF earlier, and an overly expectant Labrador who has sorely missed his walks the last 10 days. We went round our usual route, allowing rhe dog some time off the lead in the park to satisfy his curiosity before heading back. Just as I pass the Co-op, my GF decided she wanted to go in to get some wine. The dog gets a little separation anxiety if he can't see her, so after about 5 minutes of him getting quite anxious, she finally appears chatting to a young woman still dressed in her nurses uniform, on her way home from work.
It turns out the young nurse had forgotten her PIN for her bank card, and couldn't find a way to pay for all of £5's worth of food she was buying so she could eat this evening. After realising what was going on, my GF insisted on stepping in and paying for her.
I felt an incredibly warm and proud feeling inside upon learning this, and then thought to all the times I've told her off for wasting money on the dog, her kids, groceries, frivolous things that we don't need etc... And laughed at myself!
If you can be anything in this world, be kind... I feel incredibly proud to say that my GF is the kindest person I know, and that I hope she never changes!
Wonderful.
But this being Singletrack we need a picture of the dog…..
😀
Seriously though, lovely thing for her to do.

You know I said she has been known to waste money on things...

Christmas Dog is Christmassy...
That look!!!
That look!!!
That's nothing! He's got a thousand more where that one came from... He has the most human like, expressive face of any dog I have ever known!

He also has more toys than any other dog in the world! And they're all kept in a basket, which he will regularly empty all over the floor to find the single toy he wants to play with...
He's 11 by the way! Still totally spoilt rotten... Did I say my GF was kind?!?!

I got bored of carrying mines 2 favorite toys up and down stairs.. so I had the bright idea of buying upstairs toys and downstairs toys.
Now I just have to carry twice the amount of toys up or down.
(he's had some spinal surgery in the past, before any one chimes in that he's spoilt) I don't like him rattling up and down the stairs if I can help it.
Audi TT wheels.
Lovely story. Dog doesn't look so keen on the outfit....
MCJnr got a card this week from the President of one of the uni societies he's involved with, thanking him for all his support and the work he puts in to make their events a success - incredibly proud for him, but a lovely gesture to send an actual card in this day and age.
Be more nice.
Pretty sure 95% of bank cards are contactless so no pin required?
Lovely gesture though
This time of the year seems to bring out the worst in people. Dreadful impatient driving, alcohol fuelled fights, greed, people buying loads and loads of meaningless tat. So it's really heartwarming to read that there are lovely people (your girlfriend for example) in this world.
'Be the change you want to see in people'
My sentiments exactly. I've given £30 to a local homeless charity in lieu of sending Christmas cards. Imagine if everyone did the same. 2nd class stamps are 75p!!!
OP
It's nice to be nice.
Well done to your wino GF.
😉 😃
My top floor neighbour came over to use the phone then he continued to beg me to lend him £10 because he wanted the money to visit his mother (in the same city), the moment I lent him £10 he wanted £20. Then he kept promising me to return my £20 the next day. He also said he was a veteran of Afghanistan and killed many people and my other neighbour was a drug dealer (old couples) etc some nonsense that I couldn't care less. This bloke looks rather troublesome at time and I wonder if he is an addict of some sort.
Regardless of what he said, I lent him the £20 and told him to keep his promise. I repeated the questions three times and three times he said "yes, I will return the money". I only lent him the money because he is a neighbour living above my flat and knew he might not pay back (he kept saying he worked). Several days passed by with no shadow of him around or with intention to return what he borrowed. I could hear him above my flat.
Well, 3 days later the Police knocked on his door but he was not around.
£20 is not a lot but breaking the promise is the end of all contacts (he used to borrow my phone from time to time).
Good thing is that will be the last time I help him.
In life, there are people that we help and there are people who we let their karma ripen as a natural state of things.
Its nice to be nice. I do not believe altruism. I believe people do altruistic deeds because it makes them feel good.
MrsTJ told me ihad to give away a significant % of the money ihot i ended up with because she died. I have done so and it feels good to do.
Its nice to make good come out of the bad
Many moons ago, myself & pregnant gf found ourselves at a checkout with no money (we both assumed each other had some) the next person in the queue paid our bill & we again both assumed that the other knew them & would pay them back but neither of us knew them - whenever I'm in a supermarket checkout I hope to be able to reciprocate but 35yrs later still no opportunity has arisen so well done mboy 👍
Edit: watched "the old oak" last night, well worth a watch a typifies this sort of action
2nd Edit: the resulting sprog from said pregnancy works at a Christian charity providing support for struggling families and youngsters, so I guess that's payback for nourishment as an embryo 🤣
