BBC website about the possible future of magazines.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-66506417

Not too dissimilar to comments made on here over the years.

Personally I'd like to see Dirt back....

Dirt lives on in the output of Misspent Summers, but I do miss the monthly mag.

NME may make this work, but seeing so many 'expensive' magazines come and go does make it seem difficult.  Or, they've figured out STW is on to something 😀

I have lots of ideas, thoughts and some insight on this and I was trying to compress it all down to a quick soundbite a few weeks ago for a group of publishers. There's so many factors that was impossible really - the best I could come up with is..

Don't do with print what you already do with digital - and vice versa.

I’d buy that new NME if I could get hold of it. I love my mags and a new music one would fill a big void. Even resorted to Q mag for a while til that died.
Thing they don’t mention about the old NME and why it is so missed is that it was far more than just a music mag. It informed my entire world view from the age of 16. (Though I never did drugs.. 😇)

Same here but with MBUK then Dirt, then Ride BMX and Dig.

That monthly magazine was my ONLY glimpse into the world I was obsessed with. There was 5 channels full of Normy crap on telly, no internet and the occasional VHS and DVD release was the only time you'd ever see anyone moving or hear them speak. Growing up on a grim northern council estate I used to count the days to a new issue coming out.

Now everything I'm interested in is everywhere I look. If anything there's too much of it. I was obsessed with magazines, even managed to work for a few but I haven't bothered with them for years and I won't be buying any of these posh expensive ones.

Disclaimer: I did consider a subscription to Greystoke BMX magazine but I haven't coughed up yet.

Same here. I've enjoyed listening to the James Brown and Ted Kessler autobiographies, they speak with such warmth about the paper.
