Would like to take some BBC friday comedy and Infinite monkey cage with me on holiday but the "download" appears to be just a stream of saved material. Does it not save onto my machine/ipod for later non wifi/internet enjoyment?

If so how do you do it?

They are just mp3s if you download them via iTunes.

If you have an iphone, use the Podcast app to download them.

EDIT: Here they are as mp3s: http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/timc

I use the Downcast app to do this. Think the free Podcast app does similar though, as above.

Not BBC, but the Hardcore History podcasts are excellent: thought provoking, in depth, and often cover bits of history that are relatively unknown in the UK.

Long, though - the shortest episodes are around 1:30, the full series of episodes about the Khans last about 8 hours in total...

In Our Time. Learn loads about topics that will never be even remotely relevant to your life. Ace.

More or Less is a brilliant programme.
Should be compulsory listening for schools.

From Our Own Correspondent is a bit hit or miss, but usually superb.

In Our Time is the real gem for me though - a great insight into history from those who know.
Never boring, always enlightening.
Best thing on the radio (apart from Fags, Mags & Bags).

EDIT - Great minds etc Sam!

In Our Time's brilliant. As is the history hour.

Why not download them directly through your iPod in the app? Mine are set to automatically dl. Also, the complete guide to everything and answer me this (although I don't think you came here for recommendations 🙂

Listen to a few listed above (Radio4 stuff)

but also:

If you like motorsport then Radio LeMans Midweek Motorsport is very good (covers F1, GT, NAscar, Indycar etc) Can take a few episodes to get all the in jokes but worth subscribing to. Also has lots of race reports and other indepth interviews.

For some infantile type humour, The Bugle is worth a listen.

Gareth Jones on Speed for some car stuff.

If it's available, Cabin Pressure is the best thing I've heard on R4 in years.

Dunno if it's still available, but if you want some short ones (about five minutes each IIRC) to listen to I can highly recommend the "History of the World in 100 Objects" from a couple of years ago.
