Is it just me or is this "news" now essentially a government mouthpeice to massage an anti-union/strike message into the desired demographic? Whenever the establishment has a message to push, it seems to spring into action.

Ok, good to know. I did complain but they wrote back and said BBC news is impartial, which is why every government message about anti-unionism is a soundbite from a striking nurse, union leader, or a quick note that exec pay rose by an average of 23% this year... oh wait a minute!

You know who Boris Johnson appointed as chairman of the BBC? And who he just subsequently appointed head of news?

My parents don't watch BBC News any more as they are disgusted by its anti government, lefties woke bias.

So the true state of affairs is probably in between those opposing views

Exactly, the BBC get bashed by the left and the right for being biased.  Which means they're walking the impartiality tightrope as well as can be expected.  IME, those claiming that the BBC are biased, usually sit at one or other of the more extreme ends of the political spectrum.

Sounds like they consider Rish! a bit wishy-washy left wing.

It's very subtle but the overall tenor is right biased, I tend to watch Channel 4 or Sky for more balanced political reporting.

I don't accept the argument that as both left and right complain about BBC reporting bias that they are somehow carefully treading some well intended neutral path along the middle ground. Their senior appointments are all from the political right, mostly Tory donors / members or well connected with the Tories in previous comms or banking jobs.
Their news reporters and content are demonstrably biased in favour of their Tory overlords, presumably under threat of 'or else'. Pick virtually any BBC news interview with a UK Government Minister and there will be an easy ride with no pertinent / probing questions asked. IEA / ERG talking heads are regularly paraded as economic commentators but the BBC willfully fails to declare their dark money funding or far right agenda. Nor do they offer balance with similar airtime for alternative opinions.
Laura Kuenssberg and Fiona Bruce both have close Tory ties and have regularly been called out for their highly biased chairing of political discussions. Newsnight gave Farage a season ticket, did anyone else ever get so much exposure?
Emily Maitliss only called out the bias and coercion when leaving (thanks to Cummings) and long after the infamous Newsnight portrayal of Corbyn with a beautifully backlit (in red) Kremlin behind him. Nick (ex tory candidate) Robinson's outright lie about Alex Salmond not answering a pivotal question during the Indyref campaign in 2014 was laughable; his reply was 8 minutes long but Nick didn't like it, so lied.
The linguistic gymnastics BBC news reports go through to not call out Brexit is excruciating. Everyone knows it's a billionaire's tax dodge and deeply damaging to the UK. Until recently, they could barely bring themselves to mention the B word at all, presumably due to the coercive control by Conservative Central Office?
BBC Scotland's TV and radio coverage of the SNP / Green Scottish Government versus the Tory UK Government is laughable. 'Sturgeon' is very rarely given air time but every single SNP Baaad report has a unionist spokesperson on waxing lyrical without challenge. Chat shows are a unionist love-in, with very few nationalist participants. They've been banging on about the Ferguson ferries scandal (which it most certainly is) for 3 years now but don't ask them about Baroness Mone or any other Scottish Tory scandal. Any failing of the NHS in Scotland is reported in isolation as comparison with services in other UK countries it outperforms doesn't suit the narrative.
There are endless examples of pro Tory / Brexit / Union bias. Happy to concede the BBC do have a shred of journalistic credibility & neutrality if someone can point out similar examples of pro Labour / EU / Indy reporters, programs or phone ins......

‘News’ overstates its content.

BBC news has more or less disappeared off my list of sources. I can go direct to twitter for most of the BBC stories. Or to Reuters for real reporting.
