Almost the best cop show in the world, second only to the Sweeney, subtitled, beautiful scenery, lots of in jokes that you'll miss because Sicily and Italian ladies in states of undress.

Champion.

December 2016 the GF and I went down to Sicily for four weeks in the van.

Awesome island.

18-22°C along the coast. -10°C overnight up Etna. Snow storms with lightening!

Ended up in Ragusa (crazy town where you'd be hard pushed to drive a Ape through the streets) and by chance ended up in the restaurant where Montebalno is filmed. Pics of the actors and crew on the wall. Full of locals.

Through the owners broken English and our vague understanding of Italian we managed to explain the GF is vegetarian. Chef cooked up a three course meal for us both. Sicilian salad with oranges. Orichetta. Tagliata di manzo for me. Several carafes of the local red wine.

Awesome night!

Never seen Montebalno... 😁

It’s quite interesting watching Young Montalbano and wondering how he ended up as a bald, bow-legged, short-arse from such a hirsute beginning

We went to Sicily and of course Agragento. Of course the temples are impressive, but we had to have dinner in the restaurant next door to the police station. In reality it’s the town hall. Mrs Tired is a massive fan and Has read all the books.

I often wonder what the Sicilian phrase for 'Couldn't stop a pig in a ginnel' is...

I like the series, and the books are better. He's the priest confessor.
When will they put Don Camille back on TV?

Thanks for the reminder, I’d forgotten to set up to record, just downloaded it. I’ve not seen every episode, but I’ve enjoyed all the ones I have seen, and I watched all of the Young Montalbano episodes, and thoroughly enjoyed those.
I might start from series one and download all of them in sequence, as they’re available.

For those who like that sort of thing, although the books are set around Agrigento, the filming is generally (as said above) around Ragusa in the South East of the island. His house is a B&B in Punta (unimaginatively called la Casa di Montalbano”), which was excellent when we stayed there a couple of years ago.

We were there in October, when some restaurants had already closed for the winter, but there were still plenty of people photographing us drinking coffee on the balcony, eating arancini on the balcony etc. I suspect it would be quite wearing in high season. Those restaurants that were open were excellent.
