Thinking about getting a couple of cameras for a little added security but also to be able to easily see if my daughter is trying to kill herself with the next daredevil move on the climbing frame. Is there such a thing as a reliable motion detector camera that also will do live feed? I see there are options from Arlo, Eufy and Blink but I think the live feed is limited. Obviously the use of live feed will hammer the batter a bit too.
Thanks
I have a eufy system and find it excellent. I have the eufy cam2 and so far battery life has been good. You can also add in a solar charger for the battery ones but they now also do a solar powered camera too.
I can ping you over a referral for money off too (£40 off a £200 spend). Just to add..I'll also get a voucher 🙂

Ring doorbell? Has the option of her calling from the garden too.
Turn motion notification off. You can still go in and look at the recordings of any motion. Just don't get your phone going nuts every time a cat walks past.
I've a pair of outdoor blink camera's which are now permenatly powered via USB.
They work well - the night vision is not great - but what do you expect for a tiny cheap camera.
If you have them set on motion and best quality then the battery does not last more than a few months.
The app and playback is great.
Arlo here. Live feed is great. Just press play in the app and it streams live to my phone. Battery life is apparently 4 months. Camera quality is very good
Thanks all. I don’t think the ring is up to the job for what I want and also to the blink quality can easily be bettered, although for more money. I think it’s probably between the arlo and eufy, so please send the referral link. I’ll do a bit of research but it’ll be down to the live feed I reckon.
Arlo only gets that much battery life if you set zones and dim the image. Full on I get 2 months tops and that's with disarming them when I'm at home. I've got the pro2 with voice record/ talk thay are very good only downside is the magnetic brackets don't give you enough room for positioning close to a wall. The app is great better than swans.
Daylight image is fantastic FLR for night is good for facial/detail but not so good for small critters running around. you also need to position the base station by your WiFi hub so that's a consideration. Thay are worth the price and very simple to fit.
Arlo here, but if I was buying now Google have just released a battery nest camera
Just got the latest Google Nest camera and running it in battery mode on the back of the house.
Easy to set up, creating zones is straight forward and picture quality very good too. Need to wait and see what the battery life is like but suspect it’ll last about 6 to 8 weeks based on how I’ve got it configured.
I had a Blink camera for a week before the batteries ran out. Couldn't get full signal on it no matter how close it was to the router, I think it was faulty to be honest.
I do a lot of work with Arlo now in my new job (working for Verisure), and they seem really decent.
You can get additional solar panels for them, or even run a long USB cable to hardwire them in.
The biggest problem with "cloud cameras" is people's expectations. It's partly because people expect them to behave exactly like CCTV. I've had a few customers explain to me how much better their 2 grand plus CCTV is over the £99 cloud camera...
They're really good for low traffic areas that you want to keep an eye on though!
I have a eufy system and find it excellent. I have the eufy cam2 and so far battery life has been good. You can also add in a solar charger for the battery ones but they now also do a solar powered camera too.
Second this. I’ve got two EufyCam 2 cameras and their doorbell. One camera is setup with the solar panel because it’s in a pretty inaccessible place.
Live view works very well, although I do have excellent broadband and a very strong WiFi signal for all the cameras. I have them set up to detect motion only on my property, but no notifications apart from the doorbell ringing. Doorbell is set to ‘ring” via the base station which is plenty loud enough and means you don’t need ringer wiring.
I chose them primarily because they were reasonably priced, didn’t require any subscriptions, and video was stored locally on the base station, rather than on a cloud service. I’ll probably replace the cameras with their higher res version in the coming year now I know how good they are.
