I've bought a torch that takes a 10440 li-ion cell and need a way of charging it. Amazon and eBay are full of (x-zinglqorandombrand) li-ion cell chargers that all look dubious. Theres some super basic slot/usb chargers for about £4 and some more expensive ones with displays. 'trustfire' seems to be at the better end but that name doesn't give confidence.
for NIMH I used to go to 7dayshop or BatteryLogic but they're both still only selling NiMH batteries and chargers (I've got a Technoline BL700 I must have bought a decade ago that's still the recommended model)
What do I need for this 10440?
I bought a Nitecore something or other for a set of 18650 cells a few years ago. It's still going strong and the house hasn't burnt down (yet).

I use an Xtar smart charger for 18650's
The issue for 10440's seems to be
a) they're AAA sized so a lot of chargers won't hold them properly
b) they need a very low charging current which is below what many chargers will deliver (and even for those like the Nitecore that will deliver very low current has to be manually selected). Given that the warnings of overly high current being 'will catch fire/explode' that really needs to be automatic/default/permanently configureable
I've been using an Xstar charger for 18650s for years. It's been fine.
The only annoying thing is that it'll dial back the charging current (presumably if it's not happy with the balance of the cells) but even once it's balanced things, it doesn't whack the current back up unless you power cycle the charger to force it to check the cells again. Otherwise, it's been great and hasn't yet burned my house down.
This is what I have. Not a superfast charger, but you don't want that, to protect the cells. Does my two 18650's from my 'commuting light' over a few hours in the evening - it's clear they never get depleted by the amount of charge gone back in, but the software on the light warns you way before. The display is useful to see charge current etc.
