New house has 2 Vent Axia extractor fans but neither seem to work. My understanding is they should turn on with the light switch but nothing happens. Is there a trick or some kind of setting I need to enable? Not had anything like them before. It's a newly renovated build so everything is only a couple of years old.

They sometimes have an isolator. Check above the door outside the bathroom/toilet.

But yeah should come on when the lights are turned on.

Are they actually wired in?

Mine works on a humidistat rather than light switch.

Check for isolator switch.

What model are they? If they are Svara there is a little on/off switch at about the 8 o’clock of the fan. They are also Bluetooth so you can download the Vent Axia app and adjust settings from there.

Otherwise, as mentioned above, go hunting for the isolator switch which may be hidden in a cupboard or outside the room.

They sometimes have a little pull cord on them which has a tendency to snap. Might be a little bit left you can grab with pliers though.

Either slaved off the light switch circuit, often with a variable overrun timer. Switched separately, nowcrare or on a humidistat.
As there's 2 they may be designed to be run constantly, with 1 small quiet one running in the background removing the moisture from the towels layered on your chrome towel rail.. Then the other bigger one running when the shower is on
Try the obvious, mcb first, then get a live wire pen and see if there's juice going to them whem the bathroom lights on

Modern homes are designed to be airtight so extraction is essential.

Youve not seen what persimmon homes build then

Builders can, in certain circumstances, self certify for building control.
Speaking to the purchasers of new builds, plus the jobbing trade men paid to come back to fix the horror shows that are new builds.they are awful.
Wastes not fitted to sinks
Daylight in gaps round windows
Front doors frames that move 1in when you close them
Windows not square in reveals
Shower rails designed for dwarfs
Even had a new build purchaser remove and replace the brand new bathroom as it was low rent, badly installed rubbish

They look like this one:

There are isolator switches outside each room. Both are on.

Are you sure it’s not working as the first line in the description says it’s extremely quiet. I’d suggest turn the lights on and hold a piece of toilet paper next to it and see if it pulling air

If its working, it doesn't move any air at all.

They could both be knackered.  We’ve 2 in our house and I’ve already had to replace one after a few years and I have another which is playing up within 5.  They’re not very expensive and simple enough to swap out.

I’m with markspark, first thing I saw on that spec is a noise level just above human hearing.

Now, you say they don’t seem to be moving any air, but they’re only rated 50m3/hr, that’s not a lot of air movement. Try an inflated shopping/bin bag pressed over it - should deflate in a second or two.

My extractor for comparison is rated 250m3/hr and you’d be challenged to tell it’s on by sticking your hand against the vent, it’s the noise that tells you it’s on!
