I'm taking the missus to Bath for a surprise weekend away and need to find somewhere for a good lunch on Sunday before our train back. I've read good things about the Chequers but can't get through on the phone to book anything - any other recommendations of places to eat in a similar vein (pub or bistro-ish)?

Are you thinking town centre? If so, try The Raven it's run by an mtb chap from here called Tim (can't remember his surname). Close to town centre, won't be a long walk from the station and should be "reasonably" inexpensive (which for Bath, is saying something). If it's not your thing, you'll be spoiled for choice anyway - there are loads of places; just watch out as there are loads of pricey shitholes there too!

Consider the Bath Ales pubs, thre's one just off Milsom St. which might suit...

Hop Pole or the Raven, both Bath Ales pubs and run on trad; lines, good beer and local sourced food. The Raven is good for the pies and atmosphere.

Try the Green tree in green street nearby for a strange experience in bath pubs, gents loos very strange!!!
