After the world's smallest leak was discovered last night I need to replace a Bath Waste / Overflow - this sort of thing.

Any words of wisdom / gotchas before I start the swearathon?
I have PTFE tape to hand and a tube of silicon sealant on standby.
I did this two weeks ago. It's easier than you imagine it'll be. It's awkward rather than difficult.
Getting the old one off might be a pain in the arse. A strap wrench or a set of water pump pliers will mke it easier to loosen the old one.
Don't overtighten the new one. Hand tight only, don't use tools to tighten it.
A shallow baking tray underneath lined with kitchen roll to catch any leaks.
If you insist on using a sealant then use something like Fernox LSX which is waterproof immediately and doesn't cure rock solid making it hard to remove in the future.
Our bathroom sink is a PITA, in the end I had to buy two different ones and cut each in half and join the two together to get what I needed. Part of the problem was a mix of metric and imperial pipes and limited room for fitting it. It's mainly held together with a large amount of mastic!
Thanks both, Fernox LSX added to the toolstation order.
I hate plumbing.
Pretty much already covered but I’d echo the don’t overtighten advice, also make sure any mating surfaces are clean and personally I never use any kind of silicone or sealant and rely on the supplied gaskets/washers.
Thanks again. Job done and signed off by clerk of works. Just need the teenagers to not break it again 🙄
