for the innocent, poppers are Ammyl Nitrate, a powerfull muscle relaxant that you inhale. They were caled poppers as they were traditionaly sold in glass phials that you had to 'pop' the top off.

Bit like other "legal highs" have been sold as anything from plant food to bath salts despite being of no use as either. In this case they've been sold for years as an alternative to airwick.

I suppose the difficulty in completely outlawing poppers would be it could be potenialy seen as an attack on the gay comunity? I always wondered why they weren't banned outright and just assumed that was the reason.

Do you think this could help with my bad back?

I remember seeing someone who hadn't had them before, tilt their head back while holding one nostril closed and pour some in the other nostril!!! This was in a busy pub on a Saturday afternoon...the place was in uproar after realising what he'd done. 😆

Eh?

I "experienced" poppers by not being told the room was being flooded with the stuff when I went round to a mates for a beer or two as teenagers. Had absolutely zero effect on me but all the other folk in the room were claiming it was the best thing ever. Baffles me why you'd bother.

Boff boff give, them were the days!

Use to used for angina, I can only imagine how horrible a poppers rush combined with an angina attack must be!

We used to love poppers. Our local gay club sold them. We used to go for the ace hardhouse night for straight folk.

Back pain is best treated with a twin pronged aproach, combining medication and physical jerks. Poppers work well quite well when used in combination with a heimlich maneuver

I remember dipping a cigarette in the stuff then smoking as if it was lit but not actually lighting it.

God knows what damage that has done I've only got a small twitch these days.

I was with a load of friends at someones house when I was about 16 when a latecomer turned up looking a little "flushed". Turned out he'd been down the road in the bus shelter huffing poppers like a crazy man. He decided to give the lad whose room we were in a sniff, tripped and spilled the lot on the carpet. We left quite rapidly.

Not a muscle relaxant, they are vasodilators. They make you feel woozy by dropping your blood pressure.

We still use nitrates in medicine, we give patients gtn spray (glyceryl trinitrate) and isosorbide mononitrate for angina and what not as it increases potential blood flow. Lots of folk complain of the poppers type effect!

Yep headaches were terrible. In fact the only way to get rid was to take more or go to sleep.

olly2097 - I'm pretty sure they are muscle relaxants. All my gay mates use them and they're for sale in quite a lot of bars down Canal St.
