...banksy is allowed to vandalise someone’s property with his drawing, some one tries to distroy the vandalism by vandalising it !!

How bazaar?!?

Banksy's Port Talbot snow mural attacked by 'drunk halfwit' http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-46664631

It's not bizarre at all. Peoples' reactions to art are far more important than the work itself. Creating public art in Port Talbot is no different to installing a shredder in the frame of a painting.

I didn't know about the pollution from the steel works. I drive past there often enough, but never really thought about it.

Banksy could have flown a drone over Gatwick and some muppet would pay a million for it.

Sticking a perspex sheet over it seems more like vandalism.

The Perspex is temporary though, and more effective than the rail fencing it replaces, surely.

tbh, I like banksy, his stuff is great, but it seems to be all turning a bit ****y the way people clamour all over it nowadays though.

The protective shield doesn't exactly do much for the interpretation of the piece. I'm sure Banksy would prefer it getting pissed and vomited on and showered with bits of kebab.

The mural was not damaged and police ultimately did not attend the incident

Top story

who’s paying for the security guards???
Police show more interest than someone getting burgled or mugged, banksy should be picking up the cost of any interaction from police and the security guards

Load of tosh

Michael Sheen and a few local businesses have stumped up for the guard and the perspex screen according to a mate who lives there. This bit made me laugh:

We should be treasuring this privilege and it's very sad that some people want to spoil it for everyone and give Port Talbot a bad name.

The place is on it's arse and it doesn't have a great reputation anyway! I think a lot of people are missing the message the piece is saying: your town is being poisoned by the very thing that allows it to exist. Without the Steelworks Port Talbot would wither.

I do agree with this though:

Sticking a perspex sheet over it seems more like vandalism.

It's street art, it's meant to be exposed to daily life and weather. If you cannot interact with it then it loses it's meaning. Hopefully this one won't be carefully removed for someone to own in a private collection, it now belongs there in the same way the garage it's painted on does.

How much of the BBC article linked in the OP did you not read? 🙂
Police not interested; Joe Public not having to pay for security.

I’d be thrilled to bits if Banksy or someone of equal talent put something like that on my property. Taggers with the skill-set of a brain-damaged Lhasa Apso, not so much.
But I guess you have no appreciation of street art...

Banksy has a good grasp for location and a message but I think the quality of execution is poor. I know he/She has serious time constraints but there is far better street art out there.

That's cos lots of people like it.

This is possibly in this year's "top ten Big Hits" - wait for the review post on Boxing day.

What’s the thoughts on Banksy being lots of different artists ? Heard this theory before it would make sense.

Have you never smelt the stink from the M4?

Well, according to a piece I’ve just read on Dazed, contrary to what some here think, this isn’t vandalism, it was commissioned!

The newest Banksy artwork in Port Talbot – an image of a child enjoying falling snow that actually turns out to be ash, protesting pollution form a local steelworks – has been targeted by a “drunk halfwit”, who tried to pull down surrounding barriers and remove a protective plastic screen.

As reported by the BBC, the attacker was chased away before causing damage. “The security guard chased him off and police were called,” writes Gary Owen, the man who commissioned the work, on Facebook. “This art is for Port Talbot, Neath and surrounding areas. We do not want it wrecked.”

A local councillor, Anthony Taylor, says the mural – which is painted on a garage wall – has attracted thousands of viewers. Traffic wardens have been deployed to control traffic.

“People are there at all times of day,” says Taylor. “We are delighted to have the attraction but we have asked for there to be a little bit of respect. We are trying to get to grips with it, and in the new year we will try to organise things a bit better.”

Am I missing something here? How does one commission art from an anonymous artist?

Sent a message on Instagram apparently. Not sure if it was really a specific 'commission', or just a request for something in Port Talbot.

Isn't he the white bloke out of Massive Attack? His rise in output ties in timing-wise with their albums becoming rubbish 🤣.

I heard it after it would make sense, and I’m I’m still not convinced 👍
