Hi all, I have a bit of a conundrum which I don't yet know how to solve - if anyone can advise that would be amazing and much appreciated.
Brief summary of the situation - we have been resident in Australia for the last 5 years and still have a bit of money with 2 UK banks. 2 weeks ago I found out that bank A had closed our accounts and sent cheques to our old UK address. I'm slowly discovering the reasons for this but for now I just need to get them paid in to bank B. My brother has managed to pick them up so at least we have them. First cheque is ok because it's in my name and can be paid in. The other is my 16 year old son's savings account and we don't have an account at bank B in his name. I have called bank B and they won't open an account for him from here in Oz.
I've looked at several banks on the web and I can't see any that can help. He does have an account here with ANZ but they won't accept UK cheques.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Get Bank A to send you a cheque in your local currency. There might be a small fee.

How much is the cheque for? I ask as the hassle may not be worth the money

Thanks - yes I could try asking them to send in AUD.

This is surprising, I'd have thought they would process a foreign cheque for a fee. We used to when I worked in a (UK) bank branch). I'd get them to double check, or maybe look for another account in Australia that will take a UK cheque?

I was surprised by this too, but it looks like ANZ have discontinued that service from earlier this year.

I suspect it’s quite a labour intensive process…
