We paid one of our staff by cheque which she then paid in.
It cleared from our bank . Two days later her bank withdrew the money from her account to the value of the cheque.
The cheque hasn't been returned to us or her. Neither has the money reappeared in our account.
Obviously she is onto the bank about this but 2 days in no solution, has anyone had a similar incident?

It takes a week for a cheque to clear. It can appear straight away in the recipient's account but is not counted in the cleared balance so if you have outgoings you'll be overdrawn even though it looks like you've got funds.
About time cheques were abolished.

Might sound a bit harsh but you paid her by cheque, it's cleared. What more involvement from you is there? Her questions should be directed at her bank n'est pas?

you pay people by cheque?

SaxonRider called, he wants to know why everyone is using his time machine.

Most likely explanation is a manual processing error at her bank, cheques are still somewhat manual which is why banks are trying to eradicate them

Maybe she's young and has little experience of 20th century payment systems?
And Zippy is just trying to be helpful?
or he fancies her?
or something...
