Can anyone recommend a nice hotel in Bangkok, to use for a night in October while travelling back home with wifey?
The reviews on TripAdvisor are knackering anywhere I pick!
Was going to do a suite at the Shanghai Mansion in china town, £85 - bargain!
The Conrad used to be incredible value for money....about USD100 I think, lovely modern cool hotel, right where you want to be for bars and restaraunts. Havent been in a while but I'd check there. Great bar, whole scene. Mrs will love it.
What is your budget, which part of town do you want to be in?
If you are just there for a night its a long way from the airport to the city centre so it depends what time you arrive and depart.
If it is a holiday stop over and you have enough time to get into the city I would recomend somewhere next the new airport train station. Is then handy for the underground or a short walk/tube ride to the sky train to take you to downtown BKK, but also easy to get back to the airport.
Getting to some of the more cultural sites is harder as they are not served by public transport and the traffic is horredous so a taxi, although cheap, isn't easy.
Spare no expense, blow the budget and stay at the (Mandarin) Oriental, one of the great hotels of the world.
Or for a completely different experience head for Khao San Road and take your pick..
Buddy lodge is a quiet small but higher end ( for the ko San road ) and not bad value for the ko San experience plus v close to the usual temples , etc
Frasier suites sukhumvit was very very good. Didn't see the bill but the person that paid said it was good value 😉
Headfirst - you've got expensive taste!! Cheapest rooms ~£250, bit much for us.
It's for the last night of our honeymoon. Arrive BGK ~6pm, leave for the plane ~8am following morning.
We'll have done tourist stuff at the start of the trip, so proximity to tourist spots isn't important.

this.
Did 4 nights there at the start of my honeymoon. First class.
It'll take about 30-45 minutes on the train from Bangkok Airpot, into town and you'll then be aroudn the MBK shopping centre, the name of the area escapes me. You really won't have much time as I imagine you'll have to be back at airtport by 0500, 0600 at the latest. I'd stay at an airport hotel rather than trek into town for 8 hrs or so. you'd have to get taxi abck to airport in morning for about £10-15.
Try the Century Park, had a great time staying there. Used to hammer room service every morning about 4am where they used to bring up a proper banquet.
Banyan tree..never been anywhere like it! Amazing. Bit top end but worth it especially as its a honeymoon.
Got a rooftop bar aswell. 61 stories up! Breakfast is awesome to.
Last time I was in Bangkok was 10 years ago but we stayed at the Dusset Thani. Opposite the worls trade centre and right near the night market.
It was excellent and well better then we expected.
+1 for the banyan tree.
Amazing hotel and the roof top bar is well worth a visit.
Porter took bags form the taxi and escorted us to the desk, the person checking us in personally took us up to our suite and our begs we're already in our room. Still havent figured out how the we're so smooth.
Thanks all, some good ideas there.
Although the idea of blowing hundreds might appeal, i'm saving the money for the islands to make sure we get something good where we are spending more time there.
On this return leg of the trip we'll only have time for food, bed & a quick mooch I think.
What islands are you going to? I can recommend Lanta Castaway on Koh Lanta. are you planning on diving?
