I know its a how long is a piece of string question, but can anyone with a 3d printer give me a rough idea of what the materials cost would be to print a very basic shape, it could be hollow to save cost but thick enough not to be flexible, about the size and shape of a fag packet?

to be clear, i'm after the cost as if I had a printer and did it myself not paying someone to do it for me?

thanks

Very small tbh, pennies, couple of quid at the outside- basically it's all just about weight. Is it something you already have designed, or on thinkgiverse? I could slice it and tell you pretty much exactly what it'd cost me, I'm thinking maybe 100g of ABS or PLA so even the fairly expensive stuff I use would be about £1.50 (you can go cheap or expensive on filament, but for simplicity I tend to stick with quality branded stuff- finding a reliable cheap one is a hassle I don't need with my volumes). Plus electricity, wear and tear etc but that's small enough to round out.

Other relevant questions are is it loadbearing, under heat, exposed to water or chemicals.
