We're going for a walk on Saturday in Lathkill Dale and would like to go for a pub lunch in Bakewell.

Any recommendations for a family friendly pub that won't be too busy? Doesn't have to be in Bakewell but nearby would be appreciated.

Is the Monsal Head pub any good?

neither in bakewell, or quiet but The Ashford Arms in Ashford on the water just down the road is brilliant.

Family friendly, but popular!

Does it have to be a pub lunch?

Tea room at Edensor very nice, cafe at Cauldwells Mill at Rowsley (think it is veggie only)

Peacock at Rowsley or Devonshire at Beeley if you feeling flush, Grouse and Claret at Rowsley always busy but not been in.

I find Bakewell a balls ache, full of tourists, especially Mothers Day weekend

What he said ^^^
They're all really good (though Cauldwell Mill was a bit poor when we were there a few weeks ago - it's generally excellent).

Both places in Youlgreave are good.
So is the pub in Monyash.

Never been a fan of the pub at Monsal.

If it's sunny it will be busy, and Bakewell will be rammed! Nice choice of walk though.

All those suggestions are good. Monyash looks good as we can walk up the Dale, get lunch and then walk back.

Think I'll leave Bakewell for another time.

... Just spotted you were after "family friendly", and the Bulls Head in Monyash has a brilliant kids playground as well.

If the pub is full, the Smithy tea room next door is great. The best pub (IMO) in that part of Derbyshire is just a couple of miles away as well - Royal Oak at Hurdlow.

When you're in Lathkill dale don't Miss out on Batemans Mill (go down the steep metal steps and look for the handle).
