Or should I just go straight to a physio?
Or an osteo?
Or a chiro?
😀
depends on if you need drugs for the short-term
Don't you need a GP to refer you to a physio? Unless you've got deep pockets.
Darcy, sit over there and think about what you've done.
Yes just in case you have anything seriously wrong with you. Need more details.
Not in my experience, they'll just prescribe you ibuprofen
Go swimming, loads.
(Worked for me so its traditional on STW to claim that is the definitive answer).
George will be along soon I'm sure.
Depends how good your surgery is.
Mine referred me to the physio. It was a bit of a wait but it helped when I actually saw the physio.
I was off work last year for 3 months with a disc bulge. Doctor gave me ibuprofen and put me on the list to see an NHS physio. It was a 3 month waiting list!!
Pain got so bad that I paid to see my own physio who disgnosed the issue and gave me an exercise plan.
However, my wife bought me a lower back pain pilates DVD which really helped. The same DVD is available free on youtube. May be worth a look and doing some stretching excercises.
I wouldn't prescribe ibuprofen... It's 32p per pack ffs!

In my (now all too comprehensive) experience, the doctor is a waste of time, all they have ever done for me is prescribe drugs (usually tramadol for pain and naproxen). Thankfully my company healthcare includes access to really good physio, if I have a relapse I don't bother with the doctors, straight on to a direct referral.
Cost privately would be £34 per half hour session with the guy I see, I would happily pay this myself if work ever pulled the plug on the service.

This.
Then if you find it's general back pain they may prescribe Coedine if it's bad out advise you take over the counter pain relief and anti-inflamatories. If they think you need a Physio then they will refer you, there can be a wait but if you have a good employer then they may provide you with a one and fast.

I'm not a doctor, but I'd respectfully suggest that what you need to do is get proper medical advice from someone qualified to give you a diagnosis. Whilst well-meaning I'm sure, suggesting a course of action with no details of your condition whatsoever other than "bad back" might do more harm than good.
How old are you? If you're over 20...
like momo I would say Dr is a waste of time (and you have to hang around ill people in a Dr surgery) as they'll be unwilling to use NHS resources on you unless it affects you working.
Under 20 blag that you're a sports racer looking to get to expert level and the Dr will schedule physio quite quickly
Entirely based upon mine & my son's experience (except he was mentioning his triple jump prowess) - so its STW fact 🙂

My Doc just told me I had Sciatica. Didn't say how or why. That was diagnosed by the physio. The only thing useful the doctors did was keep giving me sicknotes. 😐
There..
Is's official...Gp's are a waste of time! Don't bother seeing one.
Unless you need to see one. In which case, do go.

Yip.
