My Galaxy S3 is being exchanged tomorrow due to an ongoing issue with it not registering on network (have had new sim already).
So, I need to get everything backed up/saved so I don't loose it, and restore a fair bit of it back to the new handset.
So any advice out there please?
Cheers
I thought Android automatically backed up your contacts and apps in the cloud somewhere?
I got a new phone earlier this year which required a new sim card (different size). I thought I was buggered as I had saved contacts on the old sim card.
Plugged in the new sim card switched phone on which asked me to log in using my google account id and started downloading my contacts and apps too.
Its also common for phone mnaufacturees to provide some software with the phone to back up all your data including individual settings. Have a look in the old box for a CD or have a look on the web
Last android phone I had did as above, just backed everything up to googles servers. Logged back in to my account and it downloaded it all.
Surely you just connect it to iTunes and click 'Backup' and then when you get your new phone you just connect it to iTunes and click 'Restore' 😉
get the dictionary app too. V useful.
Download "Titanium Backup" to the phone, and go with that.
isnt titanium just for rooted phones? apologies if incorrect.
when i back up my desire HD, i sync all my contacts, phone nos etc with gmail. and then plug phone into usb on laptop, and select option to use it as a disc drive. then its just a case of drag and drop to create a folder on laptop which you can use to reverse the process with new phone.
Titanium is just for rooted phones yes, so no good for me.
Think I'm just going to do what sadexpunk says
As others have said, you'll find all apps (free or paid) are linked to your google account and will therefore auto install on your new phone when you sign in to your google account. So, don't uninstall them off your old phone dbeforehand (unless you don't want them), otherwise they won't auto install onto your new phone. This doesn't apply to pre installed apps on your old phone (unless perhaps you signed up to them). What I'm not absolutely certain about is your data in each app ie text history, diary entries (if you use something other than google calendar).
It comes with the Samsung KIES Suite which does the backup for you

Surely you just connect it to [s]iTunes[/s]KIES and click 'Backup' and then when you get your new phone you just connect it to [s]iTunes[/s]KIES and click 'Restore'
Your google stuff like contacts and apps etc are all in the cloud
Mine backs itself up automatically. I dunno, to China or somewhere.
@Core, have same phone, was it showing full signal but when trying to dial out saying not registered on network?
Also a bit lazy on data connections, i.e. g when others in same area have 3g?
Yep, exactly that!
Constantly having to restart it and trick it into getting signal etc
Goes off to contact Vodafone...........
Cheers.
I went into local store last month (Erryfud), after enduring several months of this problem, googled it - pointed to sim issue, so had a new one - no change, rang up today, they checked everything out, then just straight offered to swap it, must be a known issue I guess.
