Youngest off to Year 6, eldest to Year 10, and I'm tidying my work desk wondering what I'll actually achieve today.

Sigh, at least the sun is out.  #backtothegrind

Day off for me, some quiet trails beckon with a canal side pub lunch and guitars later in the afternoon.

Back to cleaning the Koi ponds tomorrow but at least I won’t have to spend half my day trying to stop the kids prodding the fish. Little buggers. I blame the parents.

Back from a nice break in Spain (we left the day before the rainstorms and we’re back to lovely sunny weather here). My wife and I are back at work but the kids don’t start school until Wednesday 😖 I really am lacking enthusiasm today.

Surfs cranking. Reckon I can clear my desk by 4 and head to the beach. Sep/oct is my favorite time of year.

Daughter #1 starts at eBay tomorrow.

Daughter #2 is now working in Dubai.

Daughter #3 doesn't go back to university for a few weeks so she is still here with me at our place by the beach.

Beautiful day, I'm going to take the boat out and try and catch some bass 😛

So glad those school days are behind me 😁

First day for me of being an unemployed bum for a month or so. Just about to head out in the bike for a quick blast. Trip down to Cornwall to see friends tomorrow and most likely more riding Thursday and Friday!

Strangely would rather be in my old job though, funny how things like that work!

Last day of 9 days off. Done some great riding and may finish off by riding with my lunch and a book to a bench with a nice view and maybe a cheeky afternoon beer. Then 7am start back at work but only working until 3 all week so intend to make the most of this week's "summer"

Tomorrow for us (Y6 & Y8).

They’ve been off since the first weekend in July so it seems like a long time…

First day of senior school for my eldest, back to junior school for the little one.

Now that the kids are only going to be home PT, I spent yesterday deep cleaning the house - it finally seemed worth doing.

Youngest went back today. Eldest will be back in on weds. I start a new job next Monday but after school provision is not looking great for this term so how the heck we're going to make it work is a concern right now.

Still, the day looks to be a nice one so for now I'll go and walk the dog.

I accompanied Madame up to her bahut this morning on foot, the 1st years (11 years old) are there with their parents. Cars everywhere, in the middle of the roundabout, all over the pavements, on private properties. Madame took a pic to show the headmaster who hopefully will tell parents that his attitude to discipline will reflect their level of discipline as demonstrated by what they do with their cars. If you don't give a **** why should I?

Daughter starts 6th Form today. I'm contemplating how I can best grind out the next few years before giving work the heave ho.

Yep, I commute past two public schools, always carnage and with the recent addition of coaches used to ferry the kids about (this is central /sw London - tube and buses abound)

A little bit offended by how apparently ready our 6 year old was to get back to school, we must be very boring parents! 😂

Definitely a proud/slightly teary moment just watching him march up the path to his new class by himself, he's gained some self confidence over the holidays if nothing else!

Cycled in today after a week off. Got three weeks of 4 days in the office coming up, OMG how did we do 5 days a week !  Had a good moan to 'the officials' about the state of the cycle parking - we have cycle stands inside the multi storey car park, but they have been covered in toxic soot for two months following a car fire. Car parking spaces are now all open, but the cycle stands are covered in soot - think black hands if you touch anything.

Local school near work - roads clogged with parked cars for the 'teachers' as there isn't enough parking on site.

First day of 4 day week teaching here.

Everyone at work seems very worried by all the work they have been emailed out for training.

I'll be checking my email, when I get to work tomorrow.

I've been de scienced this year. After teaching science/ chemistry/ biology/ bteck and applied science since 2004 I'm only teaching criminology and computer science this year.

Strange how things evolve

My daughter is still tiny - 21 in a few months and is going for her HGV Class 2 licence. Theory test next week, then an intensive course if she passes that.

She's just shy of 5ft tall - so if you see what looks like a primary school girl driving a truck down the M1 that'll be her! 🤣

No. 1 shot up over the summer after Y7. It wasn’t the clothes that were the giveaway but the seatpost hitting the minimum insertion mark…

Our local outdoor pool is into its final week of the season usually a chance for some kid free swim time . Not this year, teachers round here have managed to squeeze a couple more days off on to of the millions they've already had this Summer! 😡😡😡

The queue at 12 to get in was unbelievable, I know it will give the finances a boost but still 😡😡😡

Another bonus. I've just booked a midweek uplift day at BPW with a couple of retired mates.  Knowing It will be blissfully quiet now the kids are back at school 😁

Firstborn off to reception this morning for the first time, so that's quite a moment. She was very excited to go so that's a good start I reckon.

Not been off properly yet. A few days break here and there. Holiday planning for later this month. Oldest is PhD-ing with a planned field trip somewhere very nice. Youngest is off to learn to fly an Airbus for two months and starts work in January.

After that, I expect a lifetime of cheap travel with volcano action!

Eldest started YR12 at a new school today, Youngest Is due to Start back in YR8 tomorrow but broke 2 bones in her ankle a couple of weeks ago and is in a plastic boot/on crutches - so looks like half days for her this week as she's struggling to get around.

Back from 2 weeks in the Haute-Savoie Saturday evening, Youngest starts year 9 tomorrow, eldest year 11, accompanied me to work today for first day of his work experience week.

None of us are particularly loving the return to early starts...

Not Iceland and Play by any chance?  A mate of mine is a Senior pilot for them.

Tomorrow morning for us.  Y3, Y2, and the youngest starting nursery now he is 3!  The teary eyes will be next week though as he doesn't start properly until then.  Gulp.

Cubs starts up again Wednesday (for the eldest), beavers for the 6yo starts Thursday,  rainbows and girls brigade next week.   Glad to get them back into some routine and seeing friends but with the sunshine we currently have....I wish we had another week off.   It's been a good summer.

Can't wait to walk the two youngest past the infants school on the way to the juniors. This first week the 4 year olds pretty much go in fine... then next week the full horror hits home that this is their life for the next 14 years or so. Some proper scenes to behold 😁

Youngest starts 6th form college next week, eldest has just flown to Italy to celebrate his girlfriends 21st before he goes back to uni for his final year - 3 month break for him and he's only been home two weeks of it!

They truly grow up too quick.

@fossy Close enough to have similarly fun commutes though. I recall your mention of the Jacksons Lane assault course

@dpfr Yes. Jacksons lane not on my commute, but I go in from Woodley, via Reddish Vale, Floop then up through Alex Park.

I'm in Whaley Bridge and the route can be anything from 'Straight down the A6' to 'Long Hill-The Street-Bollington-Bramhall-A34' with several variations in between.

What?

Not working.

No kids to ferry to school.

One good thing is that there'll be fewer people around wherever I am the coming months
