Hello,
Back at work so can't stop thinking about holidays.
Unfortunately, it looks like we are going to have our holiday from Easter to the end of April. We normally avoid school holidays like the plague.
However, this is an opportunity to do something different. We will be taking our campervan across on the tunnel and then a blank canvas.
We have spent a lot of time in the Alps so probably not there. Otherwise we'd like nice countryside, good biking (doesn't have to be gnarr, we also like pleasant rambles), good food, not a city. And a half decent chance it won't rain all day.
Only two weeks, so would prefer not to go too far, could just scrape Northern Spain or Western Italy but probably looking at France.
Thank you for any ideas.
Get the ferry to Santander. Yes, its more expensive than the Chunnel, but it becomes part of the Holiday, and you end up a LOT further south!
Western Italy
The Riviera would be lovely at that time of year.
Stunning mountains with charming old villages inland and varied riding (MTB, road and gravel).
Food is great in Italy obvs, not sure about France.
Easter school hols here finish on Easter weekend so I don't think you'll have much overlap
It is a universal truth that the time you need a holiday the most is when you've just had a holiday
We really enjoyed the basque region, I'd never been before but it was truly lovely and great food. We were walking but there were plenty bikers, on and off road
A nice mix of Spain, France good weather and lovely scenery
I had the same shock to the system last week. One day in the office sent me over the edge.
We have the first 2 weeks of April free and I'm looking for an Airbnb somewhere between Barcelona and Girona.
I'd love to have the car for doing day trips, bike parks and I'd take the BMX. But, it's a hell of a drive. I'd have to drive down solo while the Mrs flies with a toddler. I couldn't subject them to 20 hours of driving. It worked for Morzine but the Costa Brava is much further away.
Limousin area - I had a couple of trips to that area found some nice wandering around the scenery biking and loved the area
Ainsa!
It will be busy over the Easter weekend because the Spanish love a bit of Easter and then very quiet.
Great riding, all the other stuff, and great riding.
Thank you all. Some lovely sounding options to research there.
We did Ainsa in October and it was fantastic, so great advice, but not for us this time. We've also got a cheap tunnel booked, travelling off peak, so no ferry option, we'll be driving from Calais.
