2 weeks ago I did something to my back sleeping on the ferry it meant for the first day of the hols when we transferring I was a walking like a pensioner but by the next day it was fine. We’ve been biking and kayaking fine for two weeks. Jump forward to Sunday bend to get something out the van and I pull it again just a little, so we still go riding just a short 2 hour blue nothing to taxing.
When I get back i sit to read on a sun lounger and after an hour I can’t get up I’m im agony. The night is pretty rough I can’t get to the loo and have to be lifted by my son and wife in and out of bed. It eased by the afternoon and I managed a 5 mile walk yesterday. This morning was similar I’m struggling to get up and walk without support.
I’m just using paracetamol, ibuprofen and ice on it to relieve the pain, coco Damon is prescription only in France. Ive not pain like this before though my back does lock up when I’m bent fixing punctures for example.
Looks like mu holiday is over what can I do to relieve the pain and get moving before I can sort it out properly when I get back to the uk next week.
Ask a pharmacist - cocodamol is fairly effetive at uk prescription dose, not so great at OTC. - Volterol gel ? Gentle walksto keep it moving, no bending.
I'd be alternating the paraceteol and ibuprofen to keep going - i.e. paracetemol, two hours later ibuprofen, two hours later paracetemol, or 1 paracetemol every two hours (half dose)
Does sound like a disk is impinging on your nerve. Short term strong pain relief and anti inflammatory such as Naproxen would help so might be worth paying to see a doctor. Try to keep moving if you can, easier said than done I know. Ice and heat packs could help. Ideally you need an MRI when you get home.
Do you stretch? I had a similar issue a few months back and found stretching my back and legs made a massive improvement. Think mine was caused by a lack of movement then a night in a very uncomfy (and small) bed, but it finally eased with some walking and movement and then stretches.

In what way?
As a sciatica sufferer, I literally feel pain like yours.
Though different I believe
Can you get in a pool or the sea?
As your then non weight bearing might help you with movement.
I'd see what the local pharmacy has on the shelf
I’ll try get in the pool later, I’m
going to rest a little today but take a regular walk around the lake which 1/2 k. Tried to book an appointment with my on-line GP which is free through work but no appointments available until Thursday.
When I had sciatica no pain killers would relieve the pain. It was ****ing awful.
I was prescribed slow release anti inflammatories (naproxen) and eventually amitriptyline to help me sleep.
Pilates helped me with my back pain and avoid sitting for too long.
At the mo most morning I wake up early with back pain so do a bit of stretching and swimming (on holiday at the mo) which helps alot.
Will get back on the Pilates when I am home.
Try some of these stretches if you can, even just gently for now.
Not a doctor or physio
From my reading that sounds like a disc bulging into a nerve. These bad backs are usually associated with bending forwards pushing the disc back. Stretches are intended to get the back to bend the other way way moving the disc away from the nerve.
Google mckenzie back pain for exercise and advice. I read the book but it didn’t apply to my back
