Hi

We're awaiting our second mini-burko73 and the Samsung? baby monitor that we had for mini-burko73 mk 1 is now broken after my lovely wife dropped it on the floor.

We need another one - the original was great but no longer in production.

Any suggestions? Some of the models sold at John Lewis have bad reviews as the power cord seems to break.

We did try an internet enabled one first off that played on a phone app but that was unreliable so would prefer a dedicated screen.

For no.2? Shirley with the second you just pop them in their cot, back out of the room and nail the door shut til morning?

Whichever one is closest to your house on Facebook Marketplace. Then ignore it as above

In the early days, (months, years) is video really necessary? We've got a £20 Motorola audio one, does just fine. He's either asleep or awake, and in that case he makes noise.

Not sure you're going to get a straight answer 😉

We just leave a few doors open.

As per the above posters....it's your second, surely by now you've realised that if they're quiet it's all good, and if they're screaming you'll be able to hear them anywhere within 3 miles anyway.

Seriously though, I must admit I never felt the need to be able to watch them, even with our first. What's wrong with one that just does sound?

At the risk of answering your actual question, our Motorola MP41 has been fine for the last 20 months.

we found it quite useful as you can tell genuine apeshit from playing apeshit when they're getting to sleep etc. saves going in there as you can just check it out and leave if necessary rather than always going in when they cry. I guess more use a bit later on than first few months.

We got a refurbed BT 7500 off amazon, we’ve been happy with it. Don’t think you can get that model anymore. Just got the lower model that doesn’t pan for baby no2. I agree with you it’s good for gauging if they’re genuinely distressed or just playing you, once you’ve gone and stuck your head in the door they know they’ve got a bite! It’s not an essential but definitely feel we’ve had our money’s worth from it!

We use an IP webcam (hooked up to our media centre TV but the mobile app is faultless too)

Really rate it, I babysit for friends sometimes and their Motorola thing is painful to use. Night vision works, you can speak through it to (not that we ever have) and I can check in on bubs when I'm on the way home from work and see how she's getting on.

We do end up putting it on mute though as she'll soon let you know if she's unhappy - you'll hear the scream from her room (with the door ajar), then a small lag and the same scream through out TV speakers 🙂

I'm fully aware video of my nearest and dearest is going to some AliCloud random server in China but I'm fine with that risk.

You soon learn what the noise and the crying is for.

Went with a plain audio one plus an IP camera for #1. Means you get a small parent unit that works fine all the way out to garage or bottom of the garden, and if they're making a noise and you want to check then easy to get phone out and look. From using other peoples dedicated video monitors I prefer the separate setup.

For #2 I never got around to plugging the camera in after redecorating and really haven't felt the need. I only use the audio monitor if I'm out in the garage or listening to something on headphones, the rest of the time you can hear crying.

We have a BT one, the one that pans/tilts/zooms but that you can also use to talk at baby if you want (only if he's awake anyway, good fun watching him in infra red with the glowing eyes as he stops what he's doing and starts wondering where that noise came from!).

The lullaby option is hellish, wife was in tears one day when she had successfully got baby down (when he was still in the phase of resisting it) and then accidentally hit lullaby mode, played some godawful digitised melody which sparked a screaming fit and another half hour of soothing. Learn which buttons activate it and more importantly how to deactivate!

Power cords do seem very delicate, am now using an old phone charging cable from a phone. Thankfully it's just mini-USB so shouldn't be too difficult to find a spare.
