Not quick enough on focusing, but this is as close as I've had him come in the last few days.

Preparing for take off.

One of his mates was also having a feed.

Had an occasional glimpse of a couple of Goldfinches last year, not seen any this year though sadly. I just thought I would keep the camera handy whilst doing some gardening, the Blackbird will come as close as a couple of feet. If you bribe it with a few raisins .

Niger Seeds are the key for goldfinches, new garden, with zero bird activity, after 3 months, they found them 😉

ski, thats as many in one go as I probably saw all last year. They have to be the prettiest bird some of us are lucky enough to get in our gardens.
You've done a good job of getting them to your feeders, I'm impressed and jealous ! 😯

Those goldfinches rock, ski. I've been watching a family of greenfinches fledge this morning from our hedge.

We've a pair of goldfinches nesting nearby. The male sings for hours on next door's tv aerial. It's beautiful.

Niger Seeds are like crack for them, give them a go, they are great to watch, as they just sit there for ages eating away.

We now have a friendly Robin who watches me mow my grass, can get within 2-3 feet of him as I pass with the mower!

Racist.

Apropos of nothing, a mat of mine's turning into a bit of a twicher. He's taken some cracking pics, have a look.

Some brilliant pics there Cougar. I was particularly impressed with the Little Egret - specially if it was taken in the UK. I am always struck by herons, especially when they are in flight - they look like little pterodactyls and I always have to stop and stare in the same way as I did when Concorde used to fly overhead.

Ha, we were canoeing in Loch Moidart last week and think we ruined one heron's day in particular, every time we rounded a headland he'd look up, lumber into the air and flap slowly away to the next bay. 10 minutes later we'd round the next headland and there he was again! 8)

First time I'd heard one call, very grating sort of sqwuak, fits the pterodactyl image perfectly.
