Um, can I just point out that you and you wife aren't definitely actually having anything, you might be though (it's why it's generally not a good idea to find out the sex in advance). The bodies QA/QC process is very rigorous indeed.

For similar reasons it's a little premature to choose a name before the big day.

You'll just have to trust me here.

But no harm in thinking ahead.

(By the way, if you're saying what I think you're saying, my heart goes out to you and yours)

Trying to be different for difference sake doesnt work.

It only works if the parents ARE different and the child is developed/picks up their personality.

Borin parents trying to be different leads to a bullied 'interstingly named'child.

Stick to standard names IMO and give child a crazy middle name.

Pieface yes.

My two are Polly and Elsa.

But Elsa was nicknamed Beans even before she was born as there wasn't a single moment in the 9 months my wife carried her that she wasn't trampolining or something in mum's tummy. Hence Jumping Beans, full of Beans, baby Beans, she was and always will be Beans.

Hence Polly also became Polly Peas, and the two together are Peas and Beans.

baby girls names?

What about Womens names. After all, she'll be one longer than a baby/girl. 😉

We called our daughter Jessica. Generally it's to Jessie, Jessie-Rose, Jess or Dove (as the purest white dove landed on the car just as we were leaving for the hospital the morning she arrived) 🙂

We went to Baby Ballet for a bit, on the basis that it was something to keep Madame occupied on a Saturday morning.

It was woeful. All the other kids were called Lily-something.

Isobel (at the age of one) showed her displeasure by rugby tackling one of the other kids in a manner befitting Chabal at his finest; fortunately it was the last session we'd paid for so didn't need to go back...

(with the "i" pronounced as "eye")

Quirky spellings and pronunciations might seem very clever and "unique" and special, but bear in mind that the poor little cow will be spending her entire life alternately correcting people who can't say it properly or spelling it out so that it can be written down correctly.

I'm all for unique or unusual names, but being awkward for the sake of it is almost child abuse.

ObDisclaimer, I am not a parent.

Please use the name Zephyr somewhere in there. My Mother in Law has friends with a grandchild by that name and she can't bring herself to call the girl by her name!

Wish she'd told us the name before our Josephine Tara (Josie) was born! We like the idea of her being street with Josie T or posh with the whole thing or somewhere in the middle!!!!!!!!!

Loving Peas and Beans!

Our 4 year old is called Lottie, she can be Charlotte when she's older if she likes.

She met another little girl in the playground a while back. I asked said girl what her name was;

"Constance"

"That's a nice name"

"My Dad calls me Connie"

"Does he call you Conkers as well?"

"Yes, sometimes he calls me Bonkers Conkers too"

Cracked me up, Constance FTW!

I quite like longer names that can be shortened in different ways. Gives 'em a chance to pick something they like later. Eg, Josephine = Jo, Josie; Nicola = Nic, Nikki etc.

cougar raises a good point,

Had to happen eventually. (-:

Imagine them working in a job in their mid 30's, say a vet or an accountant or something.

If you've ever done interview scanning of applications you will look at a name and make a preconceived judgments.

Not Annabel or Isobel. 50% of all girls born since 2008 have one of those two names.

I would go for one of:

Bianchi
Urtacaria
Bono
Kujo
Gogglebox
Spitzbergen
Grapefruit
Scrit

Ooooh, it's always difficult! I didn't want my kids to have 'popular' names, nor weirdo ones, so they've both ended up with Scottish names. 8)

Actually, when daughter was born I changed my mind and happy that I did.

Regional names are always a good bet. As long as it's not Myfanwy, if you ever plan to conduct business otuside Wales.

I took you seriously for at least half of that post.

As far as Bono? Do you know what urticaria is

Actually.. hmm.. are there any other bike related names that could pass for girl's names?

I used to know someone called Hope.

Neighbours' granddaughters are Cadence and Rogue (not Rouge), i' m not sure the mother really knows what they mean.

For a test to see if your name will ruin your child's life chances, put the letters QC after any full name you choose. If it sounds ridiculous, your condemning her to life as a McDonalds drivethrough operator 😆
