So with the little one now 8 months and Mrs wanting to get back out walking we are looking at a proper rucksack style carrier. We have narrowed it down to the Osprey Poco AG or the Deuter Kid Comfort with a preference for the Osprey simply because we have had there stuff in the past and its been ace. Anyone got any suggestions or simply feedback on the two we are looking at?

we have the osprey , its been fine and is getting used again with no.2 son on dog walking duties . I find about an hour enough before the boy either gets restless or falls asleep but they are all different  .

No direct experience of either of those but I do have a Vaude version of the same thing, and three kids.

If buying from new I'd look for:

+ Plenty of capacity for carrying stuff that isn't a child. You'll end up wanting to take spare clothes, coat, snacks, nappies, etc, etc. Not heavy, but quite voluminous, so the more space the better IMO.

+ In the same vein, D rings on the shoulder straps for carabiniering drinks to are mega handy.

+ I wish my pack had pockets on the hip straps which are accessible while you're carrying the pack, these would be jolly useful for small things you may not want in your pockets.

+ It's handy if the pack will self support and be stable on the ground with a child onboard (useful while you're getting your shoes on).

Hope this helps! I'm sure whatever you get will be fine though, we got our pack second hand with pretty much no research and it has been well used and much loved by us. It's ace to be able to stride off into the hills with the kidster riding along 🙂

We went for the poco, great design details, like hip and shoulder strap pocket, great rain and sun shade. Mirror so you can see what the passenger has thrown down your neck. Also carries the load better than any other type we tried. We were carrying our daughter right up to and over the weight limit very comfortably.

Should also say that the little one loved it too.

Id have recommend going for the premium due to storage capacity, but seen its gone up in in price by over a third in four years. Ouch.
