Hello All,
Some opinions requested on a B2W scheme issue...
I requested a voucher for a bike from CRC; the voucher took a few weeks to sort as my employer uses Caboodle and CRC use a different system but do accept other vouchers.
In the time it took the bike was firstly reduced in price and then sold out. Caboodle have stated that as my cooling off period elapsed they will start taking payment for the bike and advised they can't refund the voucher.
Does anyone know my rights with this? It doesn't seem right or normal.
Thanks,
Martin
You'll have to check the terms and conditions of your scheme as there are a few different ones.
My work use the Halfords scheme and it has a similar policy to what you say. You order the bike using the voucher and you start paying backing regardless of whether the bike has been delivered or not.
The system is flawed as you can't get the bike with out the voucher but then a voucher can take 14days to arrived and by that time the bike might have been sold.
I was lucky that the shop I got my bike from allowed me to put a refundable deposit down to hold my bike while the voucher was issued.
Thanks @jairaj, I will check the T&c's. Irrespective there can't be many systems where you get charged for something you have neither received nor ordered!
I await their response.

You did order the voucher, you have received the voucher.
You have not been able to spend it on your first choice of bike with the supplier, this though is a separate issue.
@matt_outandabout I appreciate the point that I have indeed got the voucher but what wasn't clear is that if during the application process a bike sells out I can't cancel the voucher.
This doesn't seem very fair on the customer.
I will try some local shops to see what stock they have; my employer has thankfully agreed to defer salary deductions until I've found a suitable bike.

A fair point.
We ended up working with Evan's as they basically 'put aside' a bike for a £50 (refundable) deposit, when the LBS couldn't/wouldn't and then tried to order and found the model we wanted out of stock. We managed to swap the voucher over to Evans from our LBS.
Not sure which scheme this was, and it was 5 years ago.
I'm a bit confused why you ordered the voucher without reserving the bike... in these times.
