This thread got me listening to Martyn Bennett's Grit again. Awesome. Thanks for that. very sad that he went so young.
That scars video... I can remmeebr those orange seats in Glasgow Central and thinking it was a strange and modern place.
Probably only a few years before the got ripped out 😀
A peado once sat next to 11yr old me on those seats and spent at least half an hour trying to get me to go to his car with him to drive to the commie pool for a jacuzzi.
Waverley station was definitely a strange place back then.
How could we forget "The Shop Assistants", featuring our very own pop star/bike shop owner (hint...aviemore)
What no Texas 🙁
Christ is that Dave from bothy bikes ??
You can't beat a bunch of blokes who turn up at The Castlebay on Barra on a Saturday night.....
The very same, who knew we have a genuine scottish "pop" star in our midst.
Their wikipedia page is here,
Actually, that sounds pretty terrible now. But Scottish anyway
I will be a lone voice disagreeing, I loved them, saw them loads of times and still listen to their music from time to time. Just remind me of cutting about Edinburgh in the late 80's.
Seeing as nob'dy has mentioned The Sensational Alex Harvey Band i will not post the Framed vid as it will be wasted on here although good to see the Associates got a mention
That first lot were pish
Not the biggest fan of these guys but they always makeme think of driving to Fort William, love the way the pace builds.
Lest we forget (talkin o embra like)...
From the ridiculous to the sublime:
@Northwind Why does that remind you of driving to Ft William?
Unless just because like me you absolutely hate the drive to Ft William.
Not ‘Framed’, but their brilliant performance of ‘Delilah’ on TOGWT is one that’s always stuck in my mind, as much because of Zal Cleminson and Chris Glenn mucking about behind Alex.

Because of that time I only took 1 cd. I bought the Radical Face album Ghost in WH Smiths for the return so it always reminds me of driving home again
haha... quality
😀
It was a hire car, I ended up wandering around nevis range car park in the dark shouting DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO TURN ON THE LIGHTS IN A TOYOTA?
What - no Deacon Blue?
Easy tiger if it’s deacon blue it’s this one 😉
I used to knock about with these guys
Ah.. teasing the midges?
That's the sort of Fini tribe stuff I was talking about!
big **** off scaffolding with metal hanging from it and them climbing all over it, hanging off it and smashing the shit out of it!
Bit of the KLF, Half of them were scottish. ill claim that.
Proper pop magic, Made a fortune and in true drug fueled madness burned a million quid in a scottish bothy
Also Scottish
I only really know Young Fathers through Assasins Creed and until this thread didn't even realise they were from Scotland.
gotta love the view. not so much the music but the blokes in the band. funny AF Dundonians
That was early Finiflex, before Chis Connelly left to join The Revolting Cocks and Ministry; so do we get to claim them too?
Chris Connelly was a massive influence on what emerged as techno and inspired the creation of Pure, which brought all sorts of styles of music together to dance to and of course

No Chvrches?
And on a similar Indie vibe:
Off topic, Spotify has recently recommended me their "Made in Wales" playlist which goes all over the place from Tom Jones, to the Manics, to Duffy, Welsh language rock, dance and everywhere in between.
Dick Gaughan - 51st (highland) Division's Farewell to Sicily.
I could listen to this all day and hear it differently every time.
And on a similar subject:
I attended this gig in Annan circa 1996 and it completely changed my opinion of pipe music. Gordon Duncan was a composer and Piper of the very highest order. A lovely guy too. In common with another thread he unfortunately had troubles and took his life in the mid 00's.
Vale of Atholl and him were outstanding that night. Great night.
I was sitting in front of Gordon in this video. Pisses all over that Clannadia stuff in my opinion.
Words cannot describe how much I hate Deacon Blue.
So I must add some Cocteaus
Rustie
And classy...Alex Menzies and a ballet thing from Scotland

Innit
Davy Graham wasn't Scottish. However, he was still awesome. As was Bert Jansch (who was Scottish) and Dick Gaughan (who still is).
One of the best debut albums I have ever heard. Still feels fresh today (came out early 98 I think). They didn't quite scale the heights of this with subsequent releases but they are, in the words of John Peel, "Galashiels gift to the world". Great live, too. They really should have been bigger.

This has turned into a marvellous thread. Yah cannae whack a bit'o Deacon Blue, Dignitiy is a ripper.
Love Admiral Fallow.
I apologise for this entry - played a loop from Aberdeen to Tignes during the winter of '92 on a bus full of pissed up Scottish skiers snorting vodka and downing export.
Broken Records:
NO mention of the trash can sinatras?
Good shout senor j
