If you're in the UK and not Hawaii, after many years of disappointment I've just stopped buying the dark, rough skinned, HASS avocados that seem to be the only variety stocked by UK supermarkets. Generally go from unripe to rotten with no window in between
The markets in London have a variety that looks like the Hall (or maybe Chocette) that seems to usually come from the Dominican Republic. Have almost never had one go bad, and even when it has it's only been a small amount of the fruit. They're ripe when you can hear/feel the stone moving loose inside.

Hass avocados from Aldi are usually OK. Particularly compared with Tesco whose fruits start hard and make a rapid transformation to rotten without an intermediate ripe stage IME.
It would be nice to see different varieties. Same with bananas.
I had some delicious avocados on a visit to Papua New Guinea. 😋
Are we still allowed avacados? I thought the environmental cost greater than that of extracting crude oil.
And you won’t be able to afford a house.
I'm fairly new to avocadoes and have started eating maybe 3 a week. Get the two pack from Lidl and only ever had one bad one (which was very bad, and soft, and my wife would have been able to tell had she checked in the shop).
Normally fine without much thought straight from the fridge, but can always rotated between fridge and fruit bowl to regulate ripeness needs.
Never had an avocado, what is the taste similar to .
Imagine a very earthy buttery tasting lemony- olive.
Imagine something that makes you want to throw up and then gargle with diesel to get rid of the awful taste
