Looking for recommendations/ideas really. There are some cheap Eurostar seats available for the summer (under £100 return if you pick the right days!) which I fancy much more than the drive. Either take our bikes (which I understand is a right ball-ache on Eurostar) or just hire some when we get there.

Recommendations for good places to stay? Either B&B style things or possibly camping? Is there enough stuff to do in the town for a week or would we want to move about a bit? Don't mind a bit of a tour on the bikes but we wouldn't want to do more than 30/40 miles in a day. Obviously if it's possible to stick the bikes on the local train service that extends the range a bit. Any recommendations for must-see stuff out there?

Will obviously ditch the GF for a day to do Ventoux! Saw a recommendation on here to get the train to Carpentras then ride up the mountain from there.

We cycled through Avignon on a cycle tour and had a rest day there. Lovely town but quite busy. Fantastic local area for cycling - would recommend.

We took our touring bikes on the London/paris eurostar without issue. We had to call euro dispatch to check there was space on a particular train, book the train then call back to book your bike on. You have to give your bikes to a special kiosk down the platform. Only thing we forgot is the check in security was similar to airport. They were fine for tent pegs but not particularly impressed we tried to take a gas canister through for the jetboil.

Wouldn't hessitate to take the eurostar again for a cycle tour. If you are down that neck of the woods, Nimes is worth a visit too.

Our issue would be that my GF lives in Ashford so it makes sense to get the train from there, but you can't load/unload a bike from there for some unknown reason. So the bikes would have to be packed away in boxes. Not the end of the world I guess, but an extra annoyance. Don't really want the additional hassle/expense of getting the train to London first just to be able to wheel the bikes on!

worth bearing in mind if we go down the camping route, ta!! 😂
