heard on the radio today that aviemore is expected to operate as a ski resort for quite a while yet due to expected snow levels.
I have never skied, but it’s something I’d love to try, and the thought crossed my mind that instead of an expensive Europe trip, why not Scotland?
I don’t know anyone that has skied up there so wonder what the STW collective think?
I was up there yesterday.
Snow at the top was well-groomed and plentiful and there's a great wee beginners tow (The Polar Express) up there. Get the funicular railway to the top, play around up there, and then you might manage the Ptarmigan tow by the end of the day. If it's been cold overnight then it might feel a bit icy to begin with but it's great after an hour or so once the sun has been on it and a few folk have skied across it.
The only thing to watch out for really would be high winds as they just take a bit of getting used to. The lower slopes are a lot more sheltered but the snow can get patchy and slushy as the day goes on.
I reckon there's another 2-3 weeks of skiing to be had. If you are coming up then there is also lots of riding to be done in the area. Either bring your own bike or hire one. I can give you loads of route ideas.

I was there last week. I didn't do any skiing, although did do some sledging with my son. It was pretty busy and lots of people seemed to be having fun, looks like a good day out
