Staying in Aviemore in a couple of weeks on a sunday night, riding Laggan and High Burnside and staying in the Balalouvin.

We are looking at food options, Balouvin looks a good enough menu but mate is after a curry, what is the chat, anywhere good to go in town? Beer with food sit down, as opposed to take away?

If not, other suggestions? (I have only been to the Italian at the edge of town, the chippy and cafe mambo before)

Cheers.

The Royal Tandoori is under new managament and I've not sampled it so your guess is as good as mine. It's down by the Happy Haggis at the south end of the town.

Ballavoulin is my top choice.

Cheese and Tomatin does decent pizzas.

Old Bridge Inn is always good (if pricey).

FWIW, I'd book. A few places are opening restricted hours or not opening at all due to staff shortages (Brexit - yay!). Cairngorm Hotel does decent food and isn't bookable. Also be aware that they are all closing at very short notice due to Covid cases and isolation requirements.

It's not curry but Pizzariach is amazing if you fancy a pizza one evening.

Bridge Inn, Winking Owl and the Cairngorm are always reliable. Anderson's up in Boat of Garten is good.

Balavoulin was poor a few weeks back, maybe an off night though, hard to tell at the moment, with staff isolating so much.

Definitely book, over a full week there, we managed one evening meal out, everywhere booked solid, should've eased a bit with schools back up here possibly.

Left field option, but Glenmore Lodge has a couple of decent curries on the menu.
Excellent beer too.

Thanks. We def booking, juat where is the question. Only there for the one night (a Sunday) so hopeful it will be quieter, worst case I liked the sit in chippy (a nice trade winds with my smoked sausage was not bad)

I will take volume over fine dining so long as it doesn't wreck my stomach, i want to be able to fart with confidence

Nb its 2 blokes so no need for ambiance;)

What about the Tamanna? I see quite mixed reviews?

In aviemore at present, we have eaten at the winking owl and the world food buffet

winking owl - Pizzariach is amazing if you fancy a pizza one evening. if i'd seen this first i would have walked the 100m from my holiday let to here instead.

world food buffet - what you would expect from £15 eat as much as you can, not top notch but plentiful.

Pizzas at Cheese and Tomatin are far better than the Italian at the roundabout as you come into town. Have to book though.

The Indian on the main road (can't recall the name) is superb.

The chippy (across from Tesco) used to be good but the last time I was there (in May) the fish was tiny and of poor quality. Chips were lousy too.

If it's lunch you want then the cafe at Tiso does great food.

We had a takeaway from the Indian restaurant Tammana the other week. Pricey but very nice. I would book a table in there.

If you order from cheese & tomatin pizza, just make sure you go on the the Cheese & Tomatin (Aviemore) website / phone the Aviemore number, *not* the similarly named but different website for Cheese & Tomatin (Inverness)...

"happens all the time" apparently.

If you happen to be up in Grantown, family give 2 thumbs up to The Wee Puffin, great food, beer and whiskey selection, tiny wee place with a super atmosphere.

+1

Cobbs Cafe in the parade (opposite Tesco) is poor, but the Cobbs in the Forestry building at Glenmore is quite good.

One piece of advice. Book somewhere in advance. Was there a few weeks back and me and my mate tried every single restaurant in Aviemore and couldn't get in anywhere without a booking (on a Tuesday night!)
