You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm off on a couple of weeks for the annual dad and kid adventure holiday, this year is the Aviemore edition
Kids are 12 and 14 and pretty robust
We will have bikes, they are riding to blue / easy red level. We will have trail dog so 20km max ride
Kids love water, tree climbing, exploring, biking, discovering new places and general adventuring. Not so much in to epic all day walks.
Planning to book some white water tubing at Rothiemurcus. What else should be on the itinery? Particularly interested in cracking shortish loops for the bikes and hidden gems like little scrambles, cool bothies or safe water for jumping in.
Cheers
Feshie bridge swimming! that covers your safe wate rfor jumping in*
*I mean its still very much a river but you know what I mean, you can swim the gulley upstream of the bridge to but make the call on the day and your knowledge of the swimming ability etc.
Yeah ride to Feshie bridge, jump/swim in the pools. If too "rivery" ride to Loch an Eilein, do a loop, swim and climb trees, ride back. This probably fits better with distance limitations of riding from Aviemore actually. But Feshie Bridge worth checking out just not a ride from Av.
We are actual staying at an Airbnb close to Lagganlia so Feshie is really accessable.
Feshie Bridge is good for dipping. You can also go upstream a bit to the "pony bridge" and find a good strong current with lovely pool there. Tromie Bridge and a wee bit upstream from there too. Nearby is the Badan Mosach falls. That has a couple of pools if you are looking for that "Timotei" moment. I was there today actually (though I didn't have a towel).

There's a wee scrambling crag on the other (Burnside) side of the A9 from Aviemore. I can give you directions.
For bothies, you are handy for Ruigh Aiteachain in Glen Feshie, Be warned though... if that's their first bothy experience, it's all downhill from there. Drakes/Inshriach is small but seldom used. It's an easy cycle from Lagganlia. There is also Utsis Hut at Glenmore - only really big enough for two to sleep in but a fascinating place.
There are some nice MTB trails at the Badan Dubh on west side of Feshie (e.g. Green Dream, Ridgeline), and in Inshriach Forest (Inca Trail is currently OK, Clifftop trail is blocked).
Baden Dubh for riding, Old Post Office in Kincraig for cakes and the Zip Park for giggles.
Easy but long day is past green lochan, nice trees and water and over past bothy to Nethy bridge, various ways back to Aviemore. My favourite is past Loch Garten and Speyside way. Oops just read 20k limit - get the train back?
Loch and Eilein for nice trails and trees, don't miss out the track to Inshriach and the wee bothy there. Lochan Mor on the way back to Rothiemurchus from here is also very nice with cracking trees and nice access trails.
If it stays warm and you're up for a real adventure the Laggan Canyon with G2 outdoor is a proper good day out. Zip park is also good - we prefer the Zip Trek to the Zip Adventure.
Quad bikes are really good too - all gets a bit expensive though!
Hire a canoe on Loch Morlich and paddle up the wee river at the end of the beach.
Lots of good tree climbing by this river too, also accessible by path from Loch/campsite. Take a bit of rope for making tree swings.
Wander up CairnGorm to find some snow with poly bags or bum sledges.
Consider riding Laggan Wolftrax - reds are great but not that easy. Orange jump park is fun though.
Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore is remarkably good and I think still free. Very outside and interactive - lots to see and learn.
Tracks behind Granton are all fabulous - great for short loops. Lovely loamy, twisty Rooty fun.
There's a new skills area at Laggan as well, and the new pump track at Boat of Garten built by Velosolutions is great fun. The zip wires at Alvie estate might be worth too. I went with my 12 year old daughter last October and she loved it.
I was cynical about it beforehand but I'd they do the trips out onto the hill to feed the reindeer that they do in winter they they are quite fun. Semi wild reindeer eating out of your hand is an odd experience but seeing them up close is great if your kids are into animals etc. If not then there's loads of bike, mountain and stuff as well as touristy stuff like steam train, etc.
Second the Reindeer centre for a non-strenuous but still adventurous activity. They're really nice folk too.
Also remembered that for really poor weather days (not that it ever happens in Aviemore;-)) the swimming pool in the McDonald hotel has slides and the cinema in the hotel is, or at least was, a proper big screen and more or less the same price as a regular cinema. Watched Shaun the Sheep in there on a foul day in March when our kids were small.
I think you have to bea hotel guest or member to use the MacDonald pool now.
