Scrolling around whilst eating my lunch I came across Tucson air base; very interesting, as I munched my way through some of M&S's best Horse.

Then I got a coleage interested and we saw this:

Any Ideas what it is? First to conform gets a piece of toast.

[edit] I mean the Arrow Head shaped thing, not the ex-AF1 not the 227

Flamejob, it looks like your not the first to ask. However the mystery is solved as it's an SR-71 Drone (D21), the actual craft can be seen here: -

@PJM1974 Well done... marmite or jam?

I had, nerdily, read about the D and M-21 before, but never seen it off either a B-52 or M-21.

PS - the 227 is in my top 5. Awesome retracts; there was a yellow one at the airport where I trained.

There's a great bit in "SkunkWorks" written by Ben Rich that tells how, sometime after the fall of the Berlin wall in the early 90's, there was a meeting between retired KGB personel and US MIL/CIA people, where one of the ex KGB guys handed an old bit of alluminium over to Ben and said "Hey Ben, i think this is yours?" Turns out it was a door/closure plate from a D21 drone than had been fired off into Russia in the mid 1960's, only for it to fail to return and be persumed lost! 40 years on, and the it must have been pretty amusing to get part of it back from a very senior KGB member! 😉

It took me far longer to realise that was a 707 at the top of the pic than it did to recognise the D-21.
