I've had AVG a long time, it's previously been fine. For over a week it's had a new habit, it falls into a hole and drags the lappy with it.
What alternatives are there? I really CBA to continue, despite having 18 months' subscription still to run.
If you're running something newer than XP, then use Microsoft Security Essentials. XP or older, I'd use Avast
^This.
Windows 7 = MSE
Windows 8 = Windows Defender
Make sure AVG is totally uninstalled first - there's a removal tool on their website.
Bullguard Ive used for the last few years but Ive used Avast in the past and never had any issues with either.
AVG used to be my go to AV prog, but its got more and more bloated and more resource hungry and I havent used it for 6 years now.
Uninstalling is a PITA as well.
MSE would be my choice as long as you're not using XP.
avira - had the free version for years with no issues.
Avast!
Thanks all. AVG removed itself without dramas, and I'm trusting MS for the first time ever.
Security essentials here too!
Avast user here -

Bit defender, I've found pretty good
