Combo boiler on its way out but we are a bit skint at the moment British Gas offering 2 years 0%
£3200 new boiler in same place old one taken away 5 yr warranty
Is this about the norm or are they adding a premium on because of the 0% 2 year deal?

We have got a credit card that is clear with £2k available

Would depend on a few things

Boiler and size

Upgraded gas supply needed?

Filter being fitted?

Controls upgrade?

Trvs needed?

Flue type, straight through the wall or vertical?

Condensate run needed.

A straight swap could be between 1500 and 2000 or start adding other bits on and it starts creeping up quickly.

If you want to run two showers simultaneously, get a boiler with a high flow rate.

My gut reaction is "that's expensive". Too many unknowns in your OP, and most reasonable boilers have a minimum 7-year manufacturer's warranty

Workmate getting a replacement boiler, straight swap, fr £1400 next week. Glasgow area. An element of mates rates as the fitter is a friend of a friend but £3200 still sounds high.

When I got my full system done some years ago British Gas were double the local guy that ended up doing it.

depends on what boiler.  I paid £3000 for a boiler swap but the boiler alone was over half that

As has been said, depends a bit on the boiler and what other work needs doing during the fitting (my gas pipes had to be redone to the meter for example as weren't big enough as I switched from a conventional to a combi boiler which needed 22mm pipe). Mine actually came to nearly £4k but that included moving the boiler location and all new rads. Finger in the air for a straight swap with minimal other work required you'd be looking at around £2.5k. BG are notorious for inflated prices, just get a couple of other quotes from local fitters and make sure it's for similar price boilers.

Without knowing the detail I'd say £2k Max.

Boiler can be had for £1200 ish depending on spec, then labour and bits.

Why not just get another quote?

Ours for the same size house was about £1600. Not a combo boiler though - we have a hot water tank. IIRC the boiler itself was about £700.

This included moving the boiler (and piping etc) to an outside wall. There are some newish regs which mean that any internal flues need inspection hatches and annoyingly we couldn’t have a new boiler without addressing that. 2 guys x 1.5 days.

Pretty high price I'd say. If it's a straight swap then a boiler suitable for your house needs is around £1600 (for a Worcester Bosch and that's with no discounts - BG will be given discounts - that's also at the top end of boiler prices, other manufacturers will do similar for closer to £1000), which leaves £1600 in labour and the odd bit of copper, etc. It's a days job, so at best you're paying £1000-1300/day labour.

Go down the local Wolsely/Plumb Centre and ask for a recommendation.

Aye, avoid that BG lot like the plague.

1700-2000 will get you a good boiler, I was 1800 IIRC 2 years ago for an Ideal, I went with that as it has a complete 10 year P&L warranty, as long as it's serviced every year. No brainer. That included 2 replacement rads as well.

Swapped out old glow worm combi for a Worcester Bosch one about 7 years ago. Died just after number 3 child was born over Christmas and it was very cold. We were in a bit of a rush so I think £2,000. That was basically an in place install, magnaclean jobbie, 22mm gas pipe replacement for a few feet.

Looking online the cost of the boiler now is £1,500. That price from British Gas is very high. Get some more quotes.

That's expensive.

I paid about £2000, for removal of the old boiler, removal of old hot water tank and the new combi to be relocated.

A days work for 2 men.

That’s one of the lowest quotes I’ve heard of from British Gas.

It’s still £1500 too high.

Fag packet sums, latest gen Ideal Vogue c40 with filter for 10 year guarantee £1500 max. Labour £1000 max depending on what needs doing. Thats fairly top end. You can get more basic boilers for £700.

If you want to run two showers simultaneously, get a boiler with a high flow rate.

Or a mains pressure system with HW tank. We did this and you can only see a noticeable change in pressure if multiple taps/toilets/showers are running at the same time.

BG are notoriously expensive, so I'm sure you could get a local plumber to do it for less.

We just got a new condensing, combi boiler fitted in the summer for a total cost of £2000, and that was with a 10 year warranty. We're in a 3 bedroom semi and it's never been so toasty.

I went on one of those 'trust a trader' websites and got a couple of quotes. Ended up going with the guy who came across as the nicest.

Paid just under £2000 for someone to condemn the old boiler, remove it and install a new one for my 'Heat only' system 1.5 years ago.

The new boiler was is an Ideal Logic that has 7 years warranty plus 2 years free servicing, the company also had to change the flue into and out of the roof as well as flushing the radiators whilst they were at it during installation.  Included in the price was two days labour as well.

Really pleased, a quieter more efficient boiler that is smaller in size and not leaking.

Ours (Worcester, not a combi as it heats a separate hot water tank via a mid point valve and exchanger) cost £2500. Only changes was some tinkering with the condensate pipe AFAIK.

Possibly a little high but was a local guy we knew and he could do it on Tuesday when the boiler failed on Friday!

And this is in Berkshire so we're paying London rates for everything.

Last year we paid £1300 for a 32kw Ideal Vogue combi, including fancy RF Honeywell thermostat and magna-clean filter.

Same plumber quoted £1500 for WB, £1700 for Vaillant

I paid around £3K to an independent company a few years back, but there was a lot of additional pipework routing needed and general modernisation of the whole system.

If you're looking at just a straight swap, then that seems lot.

Almost exactly a year ago I paid £2800 for a WB boiler, 5 replacement radiators and 1 brand new radiator in a room that previously didn't have one.

I'm in Leeds btw.

have a look at  https://www.boxt.co.uk/

we were stuck last December when the boiler died in our rental flat - came in at around £1800 for a Worcester bosch, smaller property and only one bathroom but worth looking into.

seemed too good to be true that they could literally do next day service but they did, boiler and 2 blokes turned up at 7.30am and also upgraded the pipe from boiler back to meter as it was old and too small for modern boiler specs.

2 weeks ago I paid £2350 for Vaillant EceoTec Plus 832 with horizontal flute, Fernox tf1 omega filter and Vaillant VSmart controller fitted by independent GS engineer. Old boiler was removed and new one fitted in different place (guy had to drill new hole for the flute). I took him solid 9 hours. Manchester area.
