There was talk of them for this forum.
I hope not.
And object pronouns.
One of the best things about this forum design is the visual simplicity. Avatars add nothing of value, so I'm hoping the answer is 'no'.
^ from a man called "kenneththecurtain". Personally, I'm in favour of having avatars

Hope not.
I like to see content, not each sentence punctuated by pictures of dancing Spider-Man, Gerard Butler and Mr Hankey.

Me too. The only thing I think the forum could have done with is a little marker by the name of the OP throughout the thread. Makes it easy to track answers/questions etc. at a glance.
I hope not either. No to signatures too while we're at it.
<span style="color: #444444; font-size: 16px; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">No to signatures too while we’re at it.</span>
but how else will we know what races people have done/bikes they own/quotes the find funny or inspiring??
Uses up screen space for no discernible benefit, so it's a no from me.
Being able to track back through replies would be more useful, look at UKClimbing, you get a "In reply to redthunder" link next to your name at the top of your post. If you reply to the thread then there's no link. Helps avoid the "I was replying to xxx not yyy" type confusion.
Stick a load of that crap (avatars, signatures) on the forum and my browsing STW at work will be reduced. Most of my STW browsing is done at work and I doubt I'm the only one

I've heard rumours of mythical forums where you have the option to turn the avatars off. Thus placating both pro and anti groups.
Sounds too outlandish to be true.
Of all the stuff going on, people are wondering about avatars?!
This was always mine on UKRiversGuidebook

On that site, we're talking maybe ten years ago, you could click directly to the next reply after the last one you read, when you exited the thread. Utter madness... 😉
I like unobtrusive avatars in the way that you quickly know who's posting without barely looking, but I've got so used to it on here now...meh.
Signatures? Hell no! So annoying accidentally starting to read them every single time...
[sig]Measure twice, cut once, or something like that[sig/]
Signatures? No thanks!
Rachel
C’mon. Signatures are not that bad.

I don't need an avatar. I'm just changing my username to "span style" to reflect the new vibe of the forum.

Avatars no thanks.

Erm...
Whitstone put it succinctly, I however quoted it but you get the message.

Oh, we thought that youe were showing off your new sig.
I thought it was a bit steampunk for my tastes.
Couldn't be bothered to run it through Notes first..
Catchy though, d'ya think.
Might sign my mails off with it.. ;-))
I wasn't sure if you were just quoting me or making the point that the current forum S/W wasn't particularly stingy with it's use of space 🙂
Avatars? How ghastly. I believe they are popular on other forums, low brow, common, populist forums frequented by working class people but I can't be sure as I don't visit them. I prefer a forum with limited or flawed functionality, clunky barely useable features, a search engine that doesn't work and I like to be bombarded by animated advertisements and pop up ads warning me my device has a virus forcing me to close the tab I was on.
I like to think of it as a hand crafted, artisinal, home made forum. The unique, bespoke approach to a forum. The flaws and imperfections, the glaring deficiencies give it soul, character and enhance the experience of debating local parking regulations, speeding, whether I should buy a diesel, office politics and brexit. Other forums may "work" but do they have a class system whereby you can pay a small fee to turn off pop ups and giant annoying banner adverts? (other forums have those don't they?)
" The unique, bespoke approach to a forum"
If this is what unique and bespoke looks like, then the UK's favoured Brexit deal will be something to behold.
Looks like a "No" then.
I find them useful for quickly picking out other people on long lists of topics or replies.
Never mind, but Avatars do need some serious and complex programming to implement after all 😉
@JimJam LOL
You'll get yourself banned 🙂
Other forums I’ve frequented also give the ability to ‘switch off’ posts from people you choose not the see replies from.
i certainly couldn’t see any need for such a function on here.... 🙊

I am currently out of the forum and so will not be able to reply to your drivel. If your issue is urgent, please contact my PA, Perchypanther, alternatively I will come up with some witty riposte on my return.
Boss, the hospital have been in contact.
Your shoes are ready.
Looks like a “No” then.
You're not going to get an authoritative answer here. Avatars were disabled on this incarnation of the forum as they were causing problems. On the next version, who knows.
Personally I like unobstrusive avatars as I tend to muddle similar usernames. Garish chrome for the sake of it and big daft signatures are a no from me.

Your prognosis doesn't look good, TBH.

Thats what I like about them.
Signatures .... naff.
I think the plan is that rather than Avatars, we all get 200 lines of random <span> garbage appended to each post. It's a bit inconsistent right now, but I believe they are working on it.
I think we should follow the mountain bike industry and everyone should have their own forum features none of which are compatible with anyone else's.

I think you are being far too modest giving them all the credit 🙂
Please God no.
And no signatures either.
Clean and simple, please.
Sent from beautiful downtown Rochdale.
And no 'like' button either.
Pointless toss.
animated avatars ftw
