There's a metric shedload of these PC 'optimizer' type programs kicking around. At best they're largely useless, doing things that are either pointless or already possible using built-in tools (eg, defragmenting the HDD or uninstalling unused programs); at worst they can cause widespread damage either out of incompetence or maliciously.
Avanquest aren't dodgy, to my knowledge, so their software probably came bundled with something else you installed. These days, when installing software it's generally worth actually reading what you're being asked rather than just automatically clicking 'Next' so that you don't inadvertently agree to sponsor programs (I'm looking at you, Ask.com).
But none of that really matters. As I said at the start, any program that 'just appears' should be treated with the utmost suspicion.
