For leisure not WFH. We've been experimenting with the Zoom app to join in with a load of family and mates to break the the monotony of isolation. Quiz night last night and we are planning a comedy night and (shudder) a bingo night...
Anyhow, tried it on the phone and tablet and it was OK, but last night we had about 10 locations joining, so small screens are a bit congested. Tried it on the desktop PC and it worked well. I'd really like to use it on my new 55" Samsung telly. Had a go, and managed to log in to Zoom, but I couldn't get the TV to recognise my web cam (it works fine on the PC).
The web cam is quite old, I just plugged it into a USB port on the TV. Do I just need a newer webcam, or one with a HDMI lead or something else? Is using a Zoom with my TV even possible?
Can you move the pc (or laptop) to be near the tv and just use it like a big monitor?
I doubt very much that a 'smart' TV would have USB webcam drivers. Do what Stu said.

Not without a lot of faff. My wife has an ancient laptop, not sure if it's up to the job, but might give it a go.
Easiest way would be to mirror your phone/tablet to the TV. If you are on Android there should be a chromecast app on the TV, if you are on iPhone/iPad then I'm pretty sure the newer Samsung TV's support airplay as well.. Setup the zoom conference, mirror it to your TV and sit the phone under the TV so your fellow chatters are looking at you while you look at them..
I'm having a house party session with my usually Friday after work pub mates and intending to mirror via Apple TV onto my TV.
The mirroring option sounds good, I'll give that a go, thanks 👍
Well the mirroring worked well for me today on my virtual pub visit. The angle of the phone could be worked on...I was looking at the screen but with the phone being lower than the TV my image was looking up at me rather than me looking at the screen, so would have been even more off-putting to my pub mates than usual.
Also WhatsApp works alot better than House Party.
The only downside is that I had to clear up after myself whereas at the pub I just walk out. Oh well, under the current circumstances I can't complain too much! Just good to catch up with mates over a few beers.
