(Brisbane River Fire airshow practice apparently...)
Ooo, lovely! I MUST book some me time at the Mach Loop again. 🙂
Is that an F18 Super Hornet?
Nah, it's a Eurovision Typhoon.

Presumably they have slacker rules than us
Luton is where they developed the radar missile decoy for the Typhoon

See, that's what they want you to think.

Those photos are impressive but the photographer used a very long telephoto lens which makes things look much closer together than they really are. The aircraft aren't actually banking between closely spaced buildings and the spectators aren't really in danger of decapitation.
This is the annual Riverfire festival held last week. I went once when I lived in walking distance of the Brisbane River about 15 years ago.
It's pretty cool, but having lived in Lincolnshire in the run up to Gulf War 1.0 I regularly saw/heard lower flying at all times of night and day and often multiple planes at a time. I remember being woken up by the scream of planes over our roof and thinking how scary it would be to live in a place where they were being deployed.
@thols2 has it - the video gives a better perspective. Still impressive, but not quite tickling the houseplants.

That was my thought, you can get much closer at the Mach loop.
Photographed from a Canberra in Canberra?
Closer than from a Wellington in Wellington

I always struggle with the fact that I find military kit can be pretty cool with the fact that it's all designed to kill people.

And if you were in a Lancaster in Lancaster you'd be in the wrong hemisphere for pictures.
And if you were in a Bristol Bombay, you'd be very confused.

Famous because, despite the name, the designers forgot to include a bomb bay. They had to resort to throwing bombs out of the back door.
I know that problem. It’s much better since we got the plumbing at the house fixed though.
After surviving Fairey Battles and Wellingtons my Granddad spent '41 to the end of the war delivering troops around the middle east in Bombays.

Likewise. I remember the Americans having to be told not to let A10s do practice runs on cars on the A15 🤣

I'm convinced that, age 8 and stood with my brother in matching yellow waterproof jackets in a Cambridgeshire field, one lined up on us - we even had a wing waggle.
Many years later I watched two more scoot so low down Loch Ken the jet wash capsized sailing school dinghies....

Absolutely agree with this. I love a day out at Duxford and a eurofighter doing its airshow dance is a thing to behold. But it as awesome as it is, never forget that a Vulcan bomber was designed for the mass killing of innocent people

I know right? Used to get taken to some cracking air shows as a kid. Literally awe-inspiring. Can't remember much discussion about what these things were for beyond "...saw action in Afghanistan... etc"

I was a year or so older than that when I swear a Tornado over my head as I walked up our driveway. So low I could see the pilot and it just cleared our roof 🤣

That’s mental!
While we were climbing Mt Anne in Tasmania we watched a couple of fighter jets do a lap of iconic Lake Pedder, warming up for the Royal Show fly past in Hobart. I swear they were below us.
Reminds me of Cosford airshow.
Last time I went there, Concord did a low pass. Yikes.

No, that's a Vulcan.
No, that’s a Vulcan.
Whoosh!
I was windsurfing at Lee on The Solent during Farnbrough air show time years ago when a Vulcan went into a vertical climb above me. The air crackled with the noise.

I think I got a shot of that as well.
I'd have loved to have seen that!

Similar here but Nottinghamshire mid 80's to mid 90's (must have been a route from Lincoln to peak district) remember as a kid often seeing low flying jets. Red arrows were regular sightings in formation as well.
Swear one day a jet just missed the roofs as the noise it made unbelievable (I know it wasn't but bloody loud).
